Harry/Anyone: NotRot Supplies

Why can't I order a stamp (not an embosser). I've tried numerous times but to no avail. I'm in Alabama but when I go to the Notary Supplies tab all it lets me buy are: Journals, Embossers, E&O and ink for fingerprints. Is it just me? Is it just Alabama? I know stamps aren't REQUIRED by the State of Alabama but I use them anyway.

Michelle, not sure what you're doing wrong but ordering notary supplies from NR is a breeze - at least from me.

If you're having trouble, shoot an email to Harry. He'll get back to you so fast it'll make your head spin.

I found the same thing and ended up ordering mine through the NNA. The NNA gave great service, but I would have preferred to give the business to NotRot since I find them (and all the participants) such a good resource. I'm in WA and like to use the small stamps.

Ronnie -

Exactly how small? Unless something has changed, Washington is one of a handful of states that prescribes actual dimensions for the stamp and, in fact, it is necessarily one of the biggest in the U.S. Even so, a circular self-inking stamp may be less cumbersome and/or marginally smaller than the rectangular ones we sell. Maybe that's what you're referring to...

Harry

WAC 308-30-010

(3) The imprint shall be affixed with indelible ink only.

(4) The face of any notary stamp shall contain permanently affixed letters and numerals and shall not be preprinted.

(5) The use of the Washington state seal on the notary stamp or seal is prohibited.

(6) A vendor may not provide a notarial seal, or stamp, either inking or embossing, to a person claiming to be a notary, unless the person presents a photo copy of the person's Notary Certificate.

He'll have to because I have other supplies to order. He'll survive. You're funny.

Well I didn't mean you...

I don't know where you are in WA... but I hear Seattle is awful wet... even by Seattle standards... hope you and yours are fine and dry.

The availability and design of seals in our store is based on a number of factors: interpretation of state code, conversations we have had with various governmental offices, outside guidance (like the Seal Manual published by the International Marking and Identification Association), etc.

According to Alabama statute:

Section 36-20-4
Seal.
For the authentication of his official acts, each notary must provide a seal of office, which must present, by its impression, his name, office, state and the county for which he was appointed.

and

Section 36-20-32
Seal.
For the authentication of his official acts, each such notary must provide a seal of office which must present, by its impression, his name, office and the state for which he was appointed.

According to the IMIA: "Embossing Seal Required."

That's not to say, however, that a stamp cannot be used in conjunction with an embosser. (In some states it's just the opposite.) I'll have someone call the AL SOS later today to make sure they're okay with the supplemental use of a stamp. If so, we can add it to the store with an appropriate caveat.

I have never used a stamp. It is not required. We must emboss. I do have a stamp that spells me out and my comm x date, but that's it and anything above that is overkill imo.
