Help...notarize birth certificate?

I am a new notary from California, and I was asked to notarize a copied birth certificate that is needed for military purposes. Can I notarize this and what would be the proper method to notarize this document. If anyone can help me that would be great. Thank You.

Birth certificates are vital records. I would advise the requester to obtain a certified copy from the records office where the birth was recorded.

A suggestion ..

Download the .pdf version of the handbook to your computer. Keep it up to date. You can use the search function in Adobe to type in keywords so you can double check anything that might not be clear before you take the job. Read it and re-read it frequently. This question was on the test.

FYI. Any branch of the military will only accept copies certified from the county recorder. A photo copy will not do.

I also suggest that you complete your profile (the comment section is blank),
and to also include an image (photo if possible).

Write something about your background, areas covered, etc. . .
You can research the various notary profiles here, and throughout the web,
to get an idea of how to (or how not to) advertise yourself.
