Help with CA commission
My husband received his commission, went to the County Clerk, filed his bond and oath and ordered his stamp in August. In November he received a letter stating he did not complete the filing in time. I went back to the Clerks office and she said she is seeing alot of these letters, not to worry she will take care of it. We have heard nothing. Does anyone know a way of checking the commission number to see if it is active?
Thanks so much!

Have you checked the CA Secretary of State's web site?
In MO, the records of notary commissions are public information and are available on the Secretary of State's web site. Might that also be the case in California? If your husband's commission is active, it will so state, and if not, you can proceed from there as appropriate.
Good luck!

I have checked the website but I did not see anything that would check a commission. I am going to call them right now, but I am not sure if they are open today due to the Ford funeral. I thought I heard that it was a going to be a federal holiday today.

Go back and see your county clerk. Sounds like the paperwork sat on someone's desk for a while.

Today being a federal holiday/day of mourning, I suspect that the CA SOS office is not open. Try first thing in the morning, You should have a receipt from the County Recorder showing the date and time that you filed your oath and bond. That should be proof enough, even if the Recorder's office did not do their job timely.
Good Luck to you.
