OT OT OT Barbara Linker

I am sorry your OT post was removed for political content. I have never known of you to be anything but a helpful, smart, nice lady who wouldn't hurt a fly on purpose.

I hope the removal of your post because it had "political content" means that the rabble rousing has gone for good.

Re: OT OT OT Barbara Linker - well....

Quite frankly I didn't look at it as "political" but rather people helping people and how a person (or people) can achieve a goal when the desire is there!

However, in retrospect, the fact that almost every politician and gov't agency was mentioned could make that post a "political" statement. Consequently, I understand Harry's removal of it.

Like you, I also hope the rabble rousing is gone for good!

Re: OT OT OT Barbara Linker - well....

Quite frankly, I was sickened and disgusted by the juxtaposition of a snow storm in mountainous Colorado to the complete destruction of vast areas of the Gulf Coast. Not to mention the underlying sentiments of a utter distain for the populace of all Gulf Coast victims. Speaking frankly.

I see what you mean

a Different populace, a different emergency, a different reaction.

Yet, you cannot deny the pulling together of a region that was hit by a terrible force of nature, and their reaction to it. It is telling.

Different yes. All sorts of extenuating circumstances, yes. Perhaps, even severity. Yet - wouldn't it be nice if.....

never mind. All the PC police will attack. Still, facts speak for themselves.

Rather than denying the 'pulling together', I submit this

post disparaged the 'pulling together' of Gulf Coast vitims, and attacked those people, our Citizens, of dignity, empathy, and any understanding of the consept of basic survival.

This view is not an issue of political correctness. These were not 'extenuating circumstances,' these were Actual Realities. Snowed in is not totally wiped out.

Also, the original post was rife with hatred and racial vitriol. It did not contribute favorably to any sane discourse. It was, in fact, a dispicable example of hubris. IMHO.

"Snowed in is not totally wiped out. "

I suppose that statement is best decided by those that experience the disaster of that unususal snowfall/avalanche, and being buried alive.

"Also, the original post was rife with hatred and racial vitriol. It did not contribute favorably to any sane discourse. It was, in fact, a dispicable example of hubris."

I didnt see any rife with hatred and racial vitriol. I only saw a difference in how a natural disaster, by those WHOM MIGHT EXPECT A DISASTER OF PROPORTION might react and then so did ACT.

The difference was TRULY noteworthy. For those that want to categorize it into a social experiment - hey, the world is on your side. For those that truly want to examine the DIFFERENCE in these two terrible catastrophe's, that is where we'll understand. It's all about the REACTION AND SUPPORT that determines how best a community deals with adversity.

It is just very interesting how these two natural disasters played out, that is all.

Re: OT speaking frankly from Colorado

The juxtaposition will soon hit you in the wallet at the grocery store because of the major, major loss of cattle due to the storms.

**Quite frankly, I was sickened and disgusted by the juxtaposition of a snow storm in mountainous Colorado to the complete destruction of vast areas of the Gulf Coast. Not to mention the underlying sentiments of a utter distain for the populace of all Gulf Coast victims. Speaking frankly.**

Obviously, the rabble rousing is not gone for good.

I guess living in Texas is the difference in how you view what was said in that post. No guilt here..no feeling that Texans could have done more at the time they were needed.

It never crossed my mind that this post was showing an utter disdain for people who needed help. But then again, I am "here" and was in the thick of it post-rescue, and you are "there" watching it on television.

There's a fabulous Cajun Restaurant in town now, the second one! The first one out on Welborn Road was opened in July. It is doing so well that a second one had to be opened. That's just one local example of people helping people who need help and having it matter.

When I think of the populace you speak of I think of people who are now a part of our community or who were guests. So, having had a "real" experience with "the populace" I don't have a single problem with the populace.

I do have a problem with all the finger pointing and blame game to further political agendas at the expense of these people.

Re: OT OT OT Of course not! It's a terrible situation, and

the hardhips and losses are beyond cruel. And even as Coloradoans pull together, so will the rest of the nation to send what aid and comfort it can to ease the suffering. Perhaps other cattle producing states can help CO ranchers restock, for instance. There are no bounds to the generosity and compassion of Americans for those hit by catastrophic natural disasters, whether in mountainous regions, hurricane vulnerable coastlines, tornado zones, or flood-prone places.

But for one author to blame and castigate victims of a prior disaster? I'd be very surprised if that sentiment is shared by many of the Coloradoans currently under siege.
