Okay, This question is for NNA members

After reading the post about initials, I decided to look it up in the "notary BiBle" put out by the NNA. On page 271 of the Notary Signing Agent Certification Course, it states "In the sample Deed of Trust, the borrower must initial each page except for the signature page." In the sample, there are no lines for initials. I did try calling their "hotline", but they're only open until 5:00 pm.

Is it just me, or are some of the NNA answers off base? I was just reading their FAQs page on their website, and it seems like some of their answers are wrong.

It's not that their answers are off base. They can't give a definitive answer for every document, every lender, and every situation.

I don't know if I would go so far as to call the certification course book a "bible". And if you treat it as such, you are bound to make some mistakes. The best thing to do is go over the closing instructions, call someone (i.e. lender, title company) if you have a specific question, and know your state laws. Your state laws are the only "bible" in this industry.

Good luck.

Yes, I know there are exceptions to every rule. I've successfully completed over 1800 signings so far.

Their FAQ's say to send the docs back to the lender. Docs are usually sent back to the lender only if there is a split package. Usually docs are sent either to the signing service or the title company.

The answer regarding calling the lender if docs are missing--some SS's get very upset if you ever contact the lender. They might want you to contact them instead.

I'm just pointing out to the newbies that they need to make sure to check with the entity that hired them to see how to procede--not just take the NNA's word for it.

If there are "shorty" lines at the bottom of pages for initials, I make sure the borrower(s) initial, if not, no initials.
