Once, twice, three times a lady...pest!
I just completed my first signing tonite and already I have had to return to my borrower (he doesn't live too far) But I'm looking at the USA Patriot Act Customer Certification that I did not fill out. The reason I didn't was because it asked for the signature of the "Closing Agent". Am I the "Closet Agent"? I'll be so embarrassed if I have to go to him a third time. But I will if I Must. Thanks

Does the borrower have to sign that form? They haven't on any of the ones I've done. You should have all the info (name, address, drivers lic.) in your journal.

I have all except his Issue date to his license. I overlooked that part. I have another paper that asks the signature of the closing agent. Would that be me?

It depend on what the paper is...sometimes it asks for closing agent signature, which means someone from the title company. Sometimes it means you. Confusing, I don't know why the do that!

Cross out "closing agent" and print "signing agent" under your certification of the ID info.

Yes you do need to fill it out, most of them don't need the borrowers sig . Although I have seen a few that did. I cross out that closing agent part and write in notary signing agent instead. When you see "closing agent" look to see if it's something you should do like filling out borrower info or is it something you do NOT do, like the closing agents check off list. Which is filled with stuff we aren't trained to do.(do you love my technical terms?) and ALWAYS double check the docs before you leave, can't tell you how many time doing so saved MY tushie!

In CA you're not allowed to use the title Notary Public for any purpose other than rendering notary service. If I were you I'd stop using "notary signing agent" and start using "signing agent" instead. I know it's not exactly the same thing, but I think it's better to be safe than sorry and never sign anything identifying you as a notary unless it's a notarization.

Ok, I'll do that
I never thought about it that way and I would rather play it safe... Thanks.

Yeah, it's one of those regulations that are very unlikely to ever come back and bite you in the butt but you just never know.
I had no idea you were so close to me. I'm in Eagle Rock.

For pete's sake Cali...have a heart
Too much information for us older-yet-wiser ladies. Although...now that I think about it...being older/wiser is pretty cool.
I've lost many of my inhibitions. Ten years ago I was concerned about being 'accepted'. Now? I could care less if someone is so stupid as to not take my advice.
Ten years ago I was worried about being 'fat'. Now? I look better than most women my age.
Ten years ago I worried about presenting the right image. Now? I am the image.
Ten years ago I worried about wrinkles. Now? I still worry about wrinkles. Thank goodness I've whittled the 'worry' list down. Nothing that ten grand and a great surgeon can't fix.
