anyone?....

who appears to be smarter than myself this wonderful Saturday morning? 61 degrees out, yeah and a signing that will let me appreciate the weather today, the 12 of January!
I got a blank form from one of my companies asking for the info for a 'free' background check, as 'their' tc is asking. On one line it asks for SS#. another asks for DL #. Is it not good to give my EIN or do they really need the SS#?
They say it is 'strictly for a criminal check.'

Your EIN ain't gonna work for them...

which may be precisely why you would give it to them.

I thought you could do a criminal check with a name and date of birth, but I'm no expert. With your real social they can do a credit check.

How'd you know???

Truth is I haven't had my coffee... and I'm feeling the need. But I read over my post again and still don't see what's wrong. Of course the re-reading is also coffee-less. I'm gonna go pour it now.

I used to process paper work for volunteers at church. When we did a criminal background check we used the SS# and full name and any AKA names. That was all we needed. Put the info into a web site and with in seconds all the info we needed was provided. Never used an EIN number. That won't work.

25 degrees here. Snow and ice. BURRRRR. Enjoy your day.

The EIN number is not an individual social security number it is assigned by the IRS for for companies. A background check using this number will not suffice when they are checking your background. All information on your personal background would be under your individual SS#

It is highly recommended by almost all legal authorities NOT to give anyone your SS# but I don't know how you avoid it.

They don't get SS# they do not give you work

And why do you

And why do you think that the majority of the Notaries got EIN's?
Because they were protecting themselves from possible devastating
consequences.
Now many are handing over their private information (that they tried
to protect for so long) like it was penny candy.

Re: And why do you

I agree Mia. Although I am brand new (haven't signed a loan yet), I was told to get an EIN to prevent having to put my SSN out there. I haven't read enough yet about the criminal background check, but didn't getting fingerprinted by the Sec of State etc cover that, to a certain extent? I feel this background check that signing companies are requiring is a complete violation of my privacy. Having said that, I AM new and want jobs. So....I may have to put my convictions (no pun intended) aside.

By the way, candy was 5 cents when I was little...sorry, I only go back that far. Smile

Re: anyone?....Not me

Unless I'm on the payroll of your "my companies", and I'd sure like to know the "background" of the person before I hand over that form.

You're SMART, maybe not brave enough to say NO...IMO.
