got an e-mail from ATM....

They are doing background checks. They are NOT accepting the NNA chexk. They will do it at their expense. If anyone knows how to copy a acrobat pdf and paste, I'd be glad to share, all I get is the 'hand' and saving didn't do anything either.

Yes, they are doing their own background check for free, however, I believe
they are also doing a credit check along with the background check (if I remember
correctly).

With Adobe 8 only...

If you open it & go to the Tools menu...way at the bottom is 'options'.... LOTS of REALLY cool tools there. One is a 'camera/snapshot' thing and you can use this to 'frame' something & then copy/paste it to a Word doc. Oh, btw.... love the e-mail you got from ATM. At least somebody is thinking. Always a good sign.

8???

Good Lord, I downloadwd 7 and had so many issues, I went back to 6. 8 scares me, can't handle that kind of abuse.

Re: With Adobe 8 only...

Instructions for downloading Adobe 8:

1. Assemble tequila, limes, Cuervo Margarita mix, salt, and a bottle of your favorite tequila.
2. Threaten Adobe website with lewd, drunken, slanderous comments if it gives you trouble during download. You have the tools, and aren't afraid to use 'em. Prove it by taking a lick of salt, a shot of tequila, and a bite of lime. Now you are ready!
3. Remove old Adobe version. Reboot computer. Head back to Adobe site and make SURE they know you're there Wink
4. Download 8 while mixing fine margarita to your own taste.
5. Once downloaded, reboot computer again and test the new version.
6. If problems arise, take another salt/tequila/lime shot and call Ndwa Smile

Honest, Charm...

There is nobody more technically-challenged than I. But Adobe 8 is one cool reader program! It will download AND remove 7 all by itself. The 6 to 7 problem was that you had to uninstall all previous Adobe programs manually first or BAD THINGS HAPPENED. They fixed that this time around. P.S. You may want to save Adobe 7 to a disk so you'll feel all warm & secure about giving this a shot. Try it--you'll like it!

can u upgrade to 8 w/o removing 6 or 5? n/m

Don't know. Maybe PAW or Ndwa will answer this.

Told ya' I was very technically-challenged. I can't even remember 5, tho' I'm sure I used it at some point in time. I'd be worried tho' about trying to download 8 IF I still had 5 or 6 on board. Don't know if 8 removes ALL previous versions or just 7. To me, 8 is sweet & worth the grief (if there is any). I had no problem at all, but went from 7 to 8.

Re: can u upgrade to 8 w/o removing 6 or 5?

Only if it is installed in a different directory and different tree structure. BUT ... (you knew this was coming), when the reader is loaded into memory, it stays there until the memory is overwritten by ANOTHER and DIFFERENT application. Loading a later version will look to see if certain 'stubs' are resident in memory and use them if they are. So, if you look at a doc in version 6 and the load version 8, it just may blow up, because the application in memory will be a mixed bag of version 6 pieces and version 8 parts. Not a good thing.

That was the primary problem when installing the previous versions. Memory modules wouldn't be cleared. Version 8 does a much better job in managing memory maps, but I still recommend manually uninstalling ALL previous versions, rebooting and installing the new version.

Re: thx but now another ?`

I am using Windows 2000 on my desktops and laptops, with Reader 8. No problems. Just make sure your Win2K is at SP4 so it has all the same fixes as WinXP SP2.

As for CutePDF, I used it for many years until I was pointed to PrimoPDF, which, imo, is faster and more versatile. So, I use PrimoPDF to make PDF files (as a printer), as well as Adobe Acrobat when making PDF files from scratch or need to combine other PDF's. Reader 8 resides well with Acrobat.
