What comes up "greek"? Maybe the package you're trying to read is corrupted? I have had that happen - it had nothing to do with Adobe 8.

The pdf file I am trying to read and work with. I had a prev version and it said it needed an upgraded ver and I just had not gotten around to upgrading as I had no prbs... but now its a HUGE prb. How does one tell if the file is corrupted? thx

Open up another PDF file. (Here's a little 3 pager, two pages of legal, one letter size. http://pawnotary.com/download/testfeed.pdf)

THX PAW. this showed perfect. When I first tried to open theirs it said higher vers so i upgraded. Now it says diff version... I thought you could have a higher version and it would be fine opening a lower version?

If the file is corrupted, the Reader 'assumes' that the reason it can't open it is because a higher version may be required. This is often the case, especially when documents are created with a version 5 (or higher) PDF maker and opened with version 4.
Reader v8 can read all previous versions of the a file, if the file is not corrupted. That's where I think the problem lies. Your file is corrupted. (It only takes the first 256 bytes to be corrupted for the Reader to go haywire.)

Save the file to your desktop/computer then open from there. The greek stuff is commonly resulted from opening the file directly through an internet browser or other source.

I cannot as it is a link that takes you to a blind link on their website.... i had tried to see if I could do that option....

Zee, once you go to the link on their website, you should be able to right click and save to desktop. Also, I've found that just turning off your printer and computer and restarting it all sometimes clears the gibberish.

seriously you cannot, it is a hidden link from an email
that takes you to the website link and auto opens it... nothing shows of anything you can change or go to....I tried putting the link in the URL and it does the same thing
i have a call into their tech... I wanted to make sure it was not my end....

How about this:
When it opens up, go up to your menu and select "file" then go to "save a copy." Then save it to your desktop or in your documents folder.
The other thing is that I always make sure my files don't open in browser. It has caused me lots of trouble in the past. You can go to "edit" then "preferences" then "Internet" to turn it off. Just a few thoughts.

Uncover a "hidden" link by
right clicking on the link wording (i.e., "Click Here" or "Download Documents here" or something like that) and selecting "Copy Shortcut". Bring up a Word document and paste the copy into it. The pasted text will be the actual website link, not the shortcut wording. Now you can copy the extended URL text and paste it into your browser window. Sometimes that works better than trying to connect by clicking on the shortcut wording in the email.
