Alabama Secretary of State's Office

I guess good things come to those who wait. I've had the need to contact the AL SOS Notary Division twice in the last 2-3 weeks (which is unsual for me). I do my fair share of notarizations for the general public and I can get some unusual requests. Each time I called the SOS' office I was able to speak with an attorney and got an answer to my question. While this may not sound like news to some of you, last year when we had a different SOS, neither my phone calls nor emails were returned.

If this keeps up, we just might get a notary handbook or something. I'll cross my fingers but I won't hold my breath.

WI has the handbook but the SOS says there is no attorney to talk to. Susan Churchill has been able to answer all questions. They are extremely accessible

Stamper...

Wisconsin has a handbook now? Or is it still the one that's half in Latin & hasn't changed since the first cow set foot in Wisconsin?

Re: Let me Chime In....

Yep, thats the one! Too many things left open to ones own interpretation. Drives me crazy!! But after talking to others in different states, we are not alone. If it wasnt for all the reading and self education in the beginning, I wouldnt have a clue what I was doing.

Re: Let me Chime In....

Tennesse has a handbook. It's about 6 pages long and not at all helpful. And if you can fog a mirror you can be a notary in this state. So, yes, this forum, is very helpful and educational.

Re: Let me Chime In....

Frenchie, go to the SOS website and download the 28 page manual. It covers what you need to know within our state with regards to being a NP. Being a SA is a horse of a different color but still the rules and regs are spelled out clearly within the manual.

Thanks Sue, I had the old version. This is a little bit better.
