HP toner cartridge trick

I have the HP 4240n laserjet. I use the 42A cartridge. I bought the 42x a while back but it would not work, so I took it back to the store. It is the same cartridge just more toner. I just ordered a cartridge online, when it got here I saw it was the 42x so I was going to send it back. This morning I ran out of toner in my old cartridge. I knew it would not work but stuck it in anyways hoping it would. The screen said incompatible cartridge. So here I am out of toner and I need to print docs for my appt. I was looking at both cartidges, mad that it would not work then I had an idea. I was looking at the microchip and decided I would try to switch them! I took my staple remover and stuck it under and pulled the microchip off my old cartridge, it was only taped on. I could not believe it would be that easy. I switched them, stuck the cartridge in and it works! It says replace cartridge from the old one but atleast it works!!! I just finished printing the docs I needed.

That's great as long as the same toner is in both. It's my understanding that not all toners are the same and you can ruin your machine by using the wrong kind! I could be wrong, but just in case, you might want to check it?

It's a high yield cartridge. The 42 A prints 10,000 the 42x prints 20,000.
