NNA 2008 Conference
Did anyone get an email or information about the NNA Conference that is going to be held in New Orleans? Been there, great place but check the dates May 27-30, 2008.
If one was to check your calendars, you would see that its at month end. You might think that such a large organization might want to have it at the begining of the month.
I would love to go, but It is not going to cost me thousands of dollars to be away during that time period and not to mention the business that I would lose for not being there for companies as well. What were they thinking.....

They're thinking they are going to make millions off us Notaries again next year and they dont care if WE lose money in the process. One more example of how the NNA has turned their backs on us.

I sent them a nasty email, but it will probably go unansered.

So that makes EOM Saturday, 5/24/08, except for those TC's/lenders open for disbursement on Saturday, 5/31, in which case EOM is 5/27/08...correct?
When the initial announcement came out that the convention was going to be in NO next year I seem to recall it being said they also got a great deal on the hotel...wonder what the rates will be considering it's during a holiday week.

Maybe they should change their name. How about National Nut Association?

That's a good one John!
I'd be interested in knowing what kind of a kick back they're getting from the hotel for bringing in a convention during a holiday like that. LA tourism has got to be excited about this one!

National Nut Association!!! If the Shoe fits wear it!
Name fits perfectly! The possibilities are endless National Naughty Assocition or National Notorious Association, National Nuisance Association. Let's make the name stick.....how about National Nerd Association.

Or ...
No Notaries Allowed. From what I've seen the past few weeks, these NNA Certified Agents don't know the difference between a venue and emu. Ask them what a testator is and they think it has something to do with experimental potatoes.

Tue., May 27 thru Fri., May 30 ...
The NNA 2008 conference is AFTER Memorial Day weekend; end of month for purchases and no RTCs, but not bad if you all you do are refinances ... or earn a full-time living doing "straight" notary public work and can schedule your appointments for other dates
My GUESS is the rates are better because it is middle of the week, children are still in school (not tourist season), and BETWEEN weekends. Probably figures attendees would spend a few bucks more to arrive early or leave later to include one weekend for sightseeing.
I wonder what the weather's like. A number of people have told me "hot and VERY humid," plus they said the City is not fully "recovered" and did not recommend walking around New Orleans at night "sightseeing."

In January I will be in the French Quarter for
a one nighter, maybe two, before we leave on our cruise out of NO.
I am a fan of the French Quarter. And, I know a street vendor who runs his biz there full-time. His daughter is a PhD student here transplanted to Texas just as Katrina hit her home. I will get the straight skinny from them and let you guys know as time progresses.
My feeling is if you stay in the French Quarter during the evenings and don't go down a back alley you'll be fine. New Orleans has never been a place to wander around in at night "unaware" just like no major city is.
This is the first time I have a kudo to the NNA for anything. Having the conference in NO is perhaps the most benevolent thing they've ever done.
Party on, Wayne.

New Orleans
Yeah. Certainly they can use some help in their business practices and planning , but you should all come to New Orleans, even if it is at another time. I will most likely go to the convention, but only because it is down the road for me... New Orleans is still on the road to recovery and the tourists are the only hope of it being revived to pre-Katrina days. Have a good weekend to all

Re: New Orleans
Was in New Orleans several years ago. Unfortunately I didn't have much time to see a lot. But I did have coffee at the French Quarter Cafe And I ate at this great little place in Gretna, can't remember the name, got the business card somewhere around here.

Re: New Orleans
We were there for our 25th anniversary in 2000 - stayed in the French Quarter at the Hotel Monteleone...it rained the whole 5 days we were there (23 inches of rain in 5 days - we even took the Bayou tour in the rain!) and we were the last flight out of the city ahead of Hurricane Isadore (or Isabel?..I don't exactly remember the name) - I'd like to go back but my husband keeps saying no - never again...

Re: New Orleans
Memorial day week-end is traditionally when New Orleans also hosts the Wine and Food Experience. People come from all over for it. 30 or so of the top restaurants in the city host wine dinners on Saturday, great food and pretty much all the wine you can drink. Then there is the Royal Street tasting, which I think is Thursday or Friday Night and then both on Friday and Saturday there are the Grand Tastings which take place at the Convention Center and for $65.00 you get to taste the food from all the restaurants that had the wine dinners and all the wineries pour their wine best wines, some of which are very expensive wines. So my point is that this is usually not a "dead" week-end in New Orleans so I am all the more surprised that NNA is having their convention on that week end as I suspect a week later they could have gotten cheaper rates on rooms and not interfered with EOM...So I really don't get it!
