New Scheme to lower our fees

I got an email this afternoon for yet again ANOTHER NEW notary listing site. The biggest difference is that they want $25 a year so you can BID on potential jobs! Here is my answer to their email requesting why I did not finish my sign up.

After thinking it over I decided that I did not want to help support a site that will effect our fees in an even faster downward spiral than what they are in now. I've been doing this for 5-1/2 years and I am now getting calls for the same or less money than I was getting 5 years agao doing even less work (we all know that loan packages have increased in size in that amount of time). So now I'm supposed to make it easier for schedulers to pick out the cheapest NSA in an area. Instead of their having to make calls to try and find the cheapest notary (seems as though they care little about quality or knowledge, just cheapest) we are going to make it easier for them. I DON'T THINK SO!!

I agree. I have very little business at this point, as is the case with many others. What really burns my a** is the fact that the companies that called me 4 years ago, when I was first starting out, are now calling me again, after about a 2 year hiatus. Four years ago, when business was more plentiful and I was learning, the low fees were acceptable until I got my act together. These SSs I haven't heard from in 2+ years are calling me now and offering the same fee they offered 4 years ago, a lower fee than 4 years ago, or a whopping $5 increase in fees from 4 years ago. When I refuse them, or tell them my fee is XXX, they just seem so surprised. I have to ask myself why they didn't call me for the last 2 years, and why they are calling me now? They either had someone who was supporting their low ball fees and doing their work, or they think I'm so stupid and hungry I'll take anything. Some even have the nerve to respond that they "haven't had any closings in my area for the last 2 years." Yeah, right...
I really resent the fact that the majority of the signing services consist of one or two people sitting in their house in their shorts and flip flops, making phone calls. That's what they do - they make phone calls - period. That's all they do, and when they get $200 from a TC or lender to arrange a loan closing, they have the nerve to offer the SA a measley $50 and think that's a good fee. The SA sits and waits, prints the docs, organizes the docs and the closing, drives to the borrower's home, spends who knows how much time there depending on the individual situation, rechecks the docs, composes shipping labels, and mails the package. Who's doing all the work here?? Not the SS!
I think this may be ONE reason that newbies are so hungry for a $40 or $50 job. They have the idea that these SSs are some big co in an office building, and everything is so big time and uptown serious. If they realized how most SSs actually operate, it would change their minds. Then again, maybe not. At the rate XXX is spitting them out, and touting all these low fees as good money, they don't know any better.

The other part of this is that so many people place no value on their worth. We are providing a service that has value to the people receiving it, enabling them to complete their business in the comfort of their home or office at a convenient time for them.
When I first started signing in 1993, all packages were overnighted, we didn't have the internet and the fees were $65-$75. Gasoline was about a third of what it is now and the cost of living was a lot less than it is today. You would hope that people would get a clue, but unfortunately it's like beating a dead horse.

The poverty rate is at 12.7% last I heard.. As everything goes up shouldn't are worth as workers go up too? It's a sad thing to see these days.

That sounds like they are running out of newbies who will accept their fees: GOOD!
