You should be able to go into add/remove programs and have adobe toolbar come up on the list and you should be able to uninstall it. Be careful that you don't uninstall the main program.
When you update, there should be a check box that allows the toolbar to be installed. By default, it is checked. Be sure you uncheck it before you update.

If you are using Internet explorer go to TOOLS and then click on TOOLBARS and uncheck it. For now this should remove it from the toolbar or at least not show up on it. Try the customize feature on Internet explorer as well and remove it from the toolbar section.
Hopefully this will work for now.

The answer can depend on what Adobe program you have installed (Reader? Acrobat?), what program the icon is appearing in (Outlook? Word?) and what versions are involved. You may find your answer at the following web link:
http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adobe_acrobat_toolbar.htm
I suspect your answer is about half way down the page where it talks about "Attach as Adobe PDF toolbar" and the PDFMOutlook.dll file.
I hope this helps.

Try going to tools and then choose manage add ons. See if you can get rid of it that way. I am assuming that you are using IE7.
