OT - Mickey Carroll, the last surviving munchen

in the original Wizard of Oz is going to be in our annual homecoming parade in our small town. I am parade marshall for 2 huge parades. A man that lives in our town is very close to him and spends a lot of time with him and his various fundraisers. Mickey is 89. He lives in St. Louis and I am only 23 miles across the Mississippi river in IL. He is also getting a star on the walk of fame in Hollywood this fall. He's only 3 feet tall and what I understand is still very sharp and very funny. I can't wait to meet him. I'm excited. I had no idea that he was still alive. I have a group of kids that are going to dress up as Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and Lion. I need to find someone that has a dog to be Toto. Anyone???? lol Just wanted to share. Thanks

Now for the improtant stuff, was he the Mayor or was he just

a generic Munchkin? Perhaps he was part of the council? Was his a part one would remember. I have a neighbor who is the last surviving cast member of "Gone with the Wind." Cammie Conlon played Baby Blue and she has some very interesting memories of her part albeit from a childs point of view. It seems that one of the most common questions asked is what it was like to be kissed by Clark Gable. Cammie says all she remembers is that his moustache tickled.

I think there are 9 of the Munchkins still alive.

According to IMDB he was 'munchkin fiddler #2' in W of O. He was attended classes with Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland. It was Garland that got him the job in W of O and he stayed with her during filming. He also appeared in 7 episodes of Spanky and Our Gang as a character called of all things, "Mickey." The last entry is an appearance on Entertainment Tonight in 2005.
Trivia list: His actual Godfather is Al Capone and during his career he did radio shows with George Burns, Gracie Allen, Al Jolson and Jack Benny

Many years ago, when I was still a journalist, I went to the State Fair of Texas to do a feature story. I interviewed the Tatooed Lady, who had been married five times. Every husband was a tatoo artist, she said, and every one of them had had designs on her.

The most fun, though, was interviewing The World's Smallest Woman -- two of them, competing across the midway from each other. It was the first time they had appeared in the same fair together, so they took the opportunity to get together and chat about the travails of the small businesswoman.

Just a little small talk.
