Strange EOM
I had 4 signings tonight all between 600 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. On the way from 1 signing to the other I am following a pick-up truck with a beautiful golden lab in the back of the pick-up truck. The pick-up truck goes around the s curve a little to fast and the dog flies out and bounces on the street a few times. I pull over to the side of the road after flashing my lights and beeping like a mad woman (unsuccessfully I might add) and coax the dog into my car so that it won't get run over by oncoming traffic. I take the dog to my house where I notice that it has a collar with an id on it. I call the man and he comes over really greatful that I had helped his dog out. Of course I am now 15 minutes late for my next appointment. But at least I have done my good deed for the month. I hope everyone had a successful July.

Re: Your Ticket To Heaven...
My Mom says that when we make that final journey home there will be a bridge we have to cross. There will be a dog/cat there to help us cross. You can count on that dog being there! You are awesome! :0) PS...I hope that owner really makes it up to that dog! Because if I were that dog, I would kick his sorry butt off that bridge! LOL! Good night...

Strange Dog Owner
Yeah, that owner is definitely in the "dog house". Who knows? It may not have been the first time "Lassie" got thrown from the back of the truck. Mtnotary, I think you should have kept the dog and sent the driver to your appointments! You definitely get the Notary of the Year award from me.

Kudos to you for saving the dog! Now what was that guy thinking? Any reason why he couldn't secure the dog so it wouldn't be thrown out? That's the law here in California. My 2 girls wouldn't think of riding in the back of the truck, that's why I had to buy a Ford Escape.

That is the law in California and yet you still see these poor creatures hanging on for dear life and not secured to anything. I just hold my breath when I'm behind the bozo who's driving the truck.

Yellow Lab
I think you should have kept it. Love is as love does. At least keep it until morning and get the owner a scare. You could truthfully say you couldn't call him until after work.

Re: Securing the Dog----N0000000000!!
When I lived in Texas, I witnessed a horrific sight of a dog that jumped out of the back of the truck, but it was leashed to the truck. It hung there while the person kept driving unaware the dog was outside of the truck. Beeping and gesturing finally got the drivers attention. The driver finally pulled over. It was on a freeway, so couldnt stop to see how it ended.

Re: Securing the Dog----YES!!!!
It has to be a short leash, not one long enough that the dog can jump out of the truck.

Re: If Only Animals Could Talk
I wonder what they would opt for, a quick death by impact or being hit or a slow death by strangulation and bouncing off the road fifty times. And then there is the safety of the other drivers to consider. If the dog is leashed, it most likely will not endanger the other drivers. Personally, dogs in the back of trucks outlawed period. And if this happens the person should be ticketed for animal cruelty. Dont take this offensively, I am real sensative to animals and what I witnessed really impacted me. I couldnt sleep for days after that. I once ran over a rabbit and cried. To the original poster, you are an angel for what you did. Thank you!!

Re: If one MUST put their dog in the back of the pickup
bolt a cage-type crate back there and put him in the crate...at least the dog is kept more secure...
Better yet - leave the poor dog safe at home...JMO

NOW you're talking!!
One of my best friends is a very active advocate for animals and goes balistic when she sees dogs secured in the back of a truck. If there is no proper place for the dog inside the vehicle (and they should be properly secured there, too), then, yes, they should be left safely at home. I can't imagine having to witness either scenario. How awful!!
