Website Info.

I would like to set up a website with minimal investment. I am developing all new marketing materials and before I send the final draft to printing I would like to include a web address. It seems the general consensus here on NR is that having a website is extremely beneficial.
However, I do not want to spend hundreds of $$ and at this point want to secure a domain name.
Any recommendations for a company to use is greatly appreciated. I've visited a few of the websites recommended here, but after searching the most informative message I found was from 2006.

I do have one question, please know that I am completely a novice when it comes to anything technical.
Q. In regards to a domain name. I have name in mind that I would like to use that I do not believe is in use....at least it doesn't show up on the internet. So, let's say it is available, how do I secure that name and if I do so through the company that builds my website, will I lose the domain name should I choose to leave that company and use another company? I hope my question is clear, it's hard to ask a question about something you know nothing about!!!!!

As always, thanks in advance!!!

godaddy.com is a great cheap domian registry and websirt builder. You can get 5 pages and they have a website tonight product that has premade templates. My website is done by godaddy.com...It works for me now and very cheap. Take a lok at my website www.serenitysignings.com. Only cost me less than $20

I have one website under Yahoo Small Businesses (geocities.com) only cost me $1.99 the first year then $9.95/yr after. I also have one through homestead.com that cost $4.99/mo and to get your own domain would only cost you around $6.99/mo. I believe in most cases you can transfer your domain name from one company to the next.

I have 3 from GoDaddy.com. Take a look at mine if you want to get an idea. Their prices are pretty reasonable.

Godaddy.com has been outstanding for me for years. I run about 30 sites through them. Domain reg is less than $10 a year. If you need webhosting, it's about $30-50 and you probably don't need that much. if you have an internet provider (Cox, Adelphia, Comcast) they usually allow webhosting up to 10 mg for free.
As long as you pay each year for the domain name, it's yours.

Great information....thank you to everyone that responded.

I am going to research the various suggestions and compare pricing; I'm surprised at how reasonalbe it is. Once I make a decision and begin to create the website can someone explain to me what I can do to ensure my website comes up when folks search for a notary in Nashville?

Thanks!!!!

Dick: They want a credit card #... did you have to do that?

When something is advertised as free and than they want a cc # my radar goes up... and the caveat at the end of the why: In case there are charges.....Well I like to know that before the fact not after............

thx and Dick nicely done website

Hi ZeeCa....I read that as well.

When you click on the explanation button it says that they request a cc to reduce the opportunity of fraud. They only charge your account $1 for verification purposes.

I agree with you, Dick has a great website and even better that it was FREE!!!!

Re: Hi ZeeCa....I read that as well.

I went ahead and signed up. I provided my cc#, but at no point throughout the process was there any verification of charges. I'll let you know if I end up with any unauthorized charges.

Re: Dick: They want a credit card #... did you have to do that?

Hey Zee yes it is free but you do have to give a cc for any upgrades you may want,I do not use anything other than the basic stuff. They give you plenty of room to build your site I would not need to pay for anything extra.
