Acceptable Payment???
I recently had a singing appointment in which we met at the realtor's home. After the signing, the borrower offered to pay me for the notary work cash!!! I told him that the payment would be covered through the transaction but I found about a week later that the deal fell through and I didn't get paid. My question is, SHOULD we accept payment from the borrower or realtor if they offer prior to loan funding???

It's a form of a bribe. If your commission - - -
means anything to you, you'll say no. Only once I took bottled water because it was a hot day. They probably had good intentions in your signing but consider it bait for a trap.

How can paying your fee be considered a bribe? It's smart to ask the broker in advance how your fee is to be handled, and whose name (broker or borrower?) goes on your invoice. And how can you imagine a bottle of water as a bribe? Would you do anything differently whether or not you drank the water? I'm pleased when a borrower has the courtesy to ask if I'd like something to drink; so often they don't!

Right on Linda
<<<I'm pleased when a borrower has the courtesy to ask if I'd like something to drink>>> Me, too. I keep a cooler with bottled H20 in the car, but before I did that, I was many times outta luck with brw's offering a cold drink. Now if you have someone in your home who has cracked lips and the obvious signs of cotton-mouth (think Jim Carrey in Me, Myself and Irene), wouldn't you offer a beverage? I was always taught to be hospitable and offer something when a visitor/stranger came to my home, and I guess it isn't just me.

OK let me get this straight.....you think you can lose you commission over a bottle of water? Where I come from, it's called "a kind gesture".
If that were true, the WV SOS should have revoked my commission over some pop and ice tea a long long time ago.
I'd hate to ask what you think about using a borrowers restroom.
FYI - Old faithful Webster defines bribe as:
1 : money or favor given or promised in order to influence the judgment or conduct of a person in a position of trust
2 : something that serves to induce or influence

Of course you can get paid at the closing. If the notary's fee is in the hud and it is "as"POC why not?

I agree completely, but
the loan monkey did not state if there was POC by his fee.
