Articulate Notary
Hi there...I did a signing for the above signing company about a month ago. I was asked not to send an invoice, instead I had to go to their website and "register" with them for payment. Anyway, I entered my info, then there was a "contract" I had to sign and date the contract as if it was signed in Arizona, and mail it to them prior to receiving payment....not only that, they wanted me to stamp my notary stamp on their contract as a sample.
Does that sound right? I did the registering part, but I haven't done the second part which is signing and stamping their contract. Hence, I haven't received payment.
Should I go ahead and change the state of Arizona to California and stamp my seal and draw a line diagonally and write "SAMPLE ONLY" initial and date it? Any advice?

Yes, that is correct. Line through AZ write CA and initial it. put your not ary stamp on and line through it.

You should read page 7 of the CA notary handbook, before
you stamp that contract.

I haven't stamped or signed anything yet. I will have to download it again as I left my copy at home.

Never, Never use your seal for anything other than a notorial act. Read SOS Handbook.

Re: you never give a sample of your notary seal...NEVER....
That depends on your state law. Unless your state specifically says you can't do this (CA is apparently one of those), there's no harm in stamping a sample and then either crossing through it or writing VOID across it. What are they going to do with a defaced copy of your seal?
And before you say "they can use it to create a fake copy"... all they need to do that is your commission number and expiration date, and every SS application I've seen so far has required at least that much.

Re: I checked my files. I was never asked...........
Once again....thanks all for responding. I signed the paperwork and I DIDN'T stamp my seal on it. I actually quoted the Notary Handbook for CA on that and sent it off.
You've all been helpful!!!
