Borrowers' Phone Nos. Rant

Why is it so hard to get all the contact numbers we need to confirm with borrower? I got a call yesterday for a 1st and 2nd tonite at 7pm....only rec'd the home#. I called up until 10pm and the answering machine message is a generic so I don't even know that the number is correct. The B's address is not on any map websites. I emailed the scheduler and asked if possible to get a cell#. We'll see if he can.

I had one of these a couple of months ago and no one was able to get any other number for me so I got out the phone book and called every duplicate name asking if they were related to Joe Blow...finally got the mom of the borrower and (surprisingly) she gave me his cell. Thank goodness because the B had a "soft-ball" game and wasn't planning on being home until after 9pm (the signing had been set for 7pm). And yes, he knew there would be a signing but figured he'd just do it when he got home. ????

This is one of my pet peeves too. They always want you to call the borrower immediately to confirm, and many times the phone numbers are disconnected, have a wrong area code, it's not clear whether it's a home or work or cell phone, or it's a cell and you don't know if it's the husband or the wife who you're calling. I wish the confirmations had more info on them so at least I'd sound like I know what I'm talking about when I call to confirm the appt.

Re: calling bwr at work

I love it when you call the work # because that's what is provided & get the secretary or someone who states that they can't accept personal calls at work! I've also had borrowers hang up on me because they think I'm a telemarketer...

If you have the dox , check the 1003. Also try some of ....

the on line 411 services, swithboard, whitepages, anywho, etc. etc.
Most of them have a reverse directroy, so you can at least
see if the phone # that you do have is their's when go get a generic VM
Also, people who have the outgoing msg on their VM recorded
by a three year old , should be beaten with sticks.

You called random people in the phonebook to track down the borrower? I'd have to charge extra for skip tracing. I'd just call the TC and SS and explain you weren't able to contact the borrower using the numbers provided and you'd be happy to reschedule when the borrower is available.

I always leave a message on any machine but word the message so as to guard the borrower's privacy. "This message is for Joe Smith. My name is Sharon Hahn and I'm calling to confirm our appointment tomorrow evening to sign some documents at 7 pm. Would you please call me right away to let me know you're expecting me?"

Re: Now I'm Ready to Cry...

got the docs, 1003 only had borrower's home & work #s. Called work# - it's another generic voice message. Called the interviewer at finance company, he did have a cell. Tried that 4 times, no answer and no way to even leave a message. Went ahead and printed docs. Called cell one more time - voila! he answered. Then he says "my wife cancelled that loan yesterday". Call back to finance....he says he did not recieve a call to cancel but would try calling borrower on cell.....good luck. Now I sit here with 1st and 2nd loan docs. I know that T/C will pay print fee but I have a lot of time on this and will now have to sit and shred.

And may I also add that I passed on two offers to do this one. I know, I know, it's the nature of the beast but still......

Lesson learned - no way will I ever again print docs UNTIL I have spoken with borrower!

Re: Now I'm Ready to Cry...

Absolutely, I, too, learned the hard way to not print docs without having confirmed with the borrowers. I sure hope you're getting a decent fee for printing! Chalk it up to the cost of learning on this one.

Wow! Words escape me. I never thought of doing skip tracking to find a borrower -- I would have to charge them a pretty penny for that service.

I use the online look-ups to find phone numbers. And once I receive the docs, I check the 1003.

If I am still unable to contact the borrowers, I put it back on the TC/LO.
