Closings from he&%

I had four closings the last two weeks that were really rough due to the enviornment.

I had a double signing in the small parlor of a historic home. The borrowers had two 50 lb dogs in the room that played/roughhoused, growled and barked at each other the entire time, and repeatedly bumped the small coctail table where we were signing. The borrowers thought it was real cute how they played together.

At another closing we signied on the counter in a percussion store while the borrowers' son, who was taking drum lessons. He could be heard playing the entire time through the closed door to the room where he was taking his lesson. The borrowers were on their way out of town and the only time they had to close was during his lesson.

I had another closing where I met the borrower at her place of work, which had high security and I couldn't go in. The signing took place on the hood of my black SUV in the sun in 9O degree heat. Sweat was stinging my eyes so I could barely see and I had to keep wiping my face with my arm so I wouldn't drip sweat on the documents.

At another closing we signed documents on top of a trash can in the borrowers driveway because she said there was place to sign in the house. I moved to the hood of her dirty car to get a flat surface to notarize.

All in a day's work of a notary signing agent!

Target sells light weight, folding , four seat plastic.....

picnic table for less than $30.
Comes in very handy at those times.
Also, Starbucks, Mickey Ds , Library , etc. etc.
Someimes I am tempted to ask these slobs with no
flat clean surface in the house. "Where do you people eat?????"

"Where do you people eat?????"

On their bed, plate balanced on pillow while watching TV!, which BTW, is my fav place! But, at my house, we can use the table too! LOL

Frequnetly, the people with the filthiest houses, insist....

that you have something to eat and drink.
I would like to say, in lieu of my usual "No thank you":
No thanks, it looks great, but my doctor has me on a strict
diet. I am not allowed to eat anything that died of natural causes."

Ok, 1, 2, & 3 - been there, done that. But I think I might have walked @ #4 - and in 4+ years, I have NEVER walked. I wonder if she even lived there? If their house is so bad, schedule it at McDonalds or the Library. Geez Louise!

Re: Closings from he&%--long-ish

My sympathy is w/you.
I had two this week that equal yours. A purchase w/RE agent, sellers, bor. and odd people drifting in and out to use bathroom, check out the house, etc. No animals, but still felt I was at a social gathering. Everyone had cell phones, constantly in use. Took 2 hours, but I kept my cool and finally just gave up on explaining anything and just pointed, got signed, swished away for the next. No one seemed to care. Perhaps that just speaks for the LO/RE agent having all details explained well in advance, but everyone appeared happy and who am I to object? My next signing appt. (who wanted to do this 'now') knew already that I would be there as soon as I could be, that I also would give them equal attention for their issues.
Finally got to second, and right off bor. didn't want to give up ID copy, saying they already gave to LO, etc. LO on phone, tells them not necessary, even though I have printed instructions to pick up. LO tells me not to screw up his deal, just get it signed. He has DL copy, yada, yada... So I concede and we go onward to first doc (HUD). Call to LO again - another 10 mins of discussions. Go to note, check out details, call to LO. Next docs to check, call to LO again. Over one hr. elapses, nothing signed. Finally LO asks me what is problem? I resist answer because I am pissed and trying to remain charming and I can't let bor. see me 'sweat'. Bor. can't form proper questions, not understanding why numbers are all over the place, me just being broken record 'you have to ask your LO, I am not....' (you know the drill) 2 hrs. into signing, SS calls, wants update, can't give, can't believe I'm still there, call us when done, etc. Mrs. pulls Mr. into another room - discussing merits of loan? - return, get 2 docs signed, more calls to LO who finally quits answering phone so now I am alone, which would have been better in the first place. No RTC, investment prop. so I am somewhat understanding of bor. I leave 3 hr., 30 min later with 45 min. drive in front of my tired brain.
Final analysis: Bor. #1 knows his loan, understands it and feels comfortable. #2 hasn't seen a thing until I show up, been 'sold' on something he doesn't understand, just doesn't have a clue about the process and is wary.
My wish: better LO's to not just choose financial vehicle for their benefit, but bor. benefit, then giving disclosures up front thus paving way for better signing experience. And leave notary instructions alone! This LO undermined my authority from the get-go and BTW, this morning the bor. had to go out and get copies of DL's for funding to take place.
Yes - all in a day's work...and it still beats flipping hamburgers, being cooped up in office all day, topless dancing and myriad other occupations.

Had a borrower who said no place to sign in the sticks.

So I fired up the 71 VW camper and we sat at the dining table. I've decided to start using that a bit more as my mobile office, works great.

When I am asked to sign the docs at a Denny's I am usually grateful when I see the condition of their car and the "stuff" inside the car.

I am particularly grateful when the borrowers are in the garage with a card table and and 3 chairs and I am not allowed inside the house.

I don't want to know whats in that house as the outside is scary enough!

The cemetery has a Funeral home there as well. The person works at the Funeral home. Funny thing was the whole time I was trying to figure out if they might need a notary for their contract work? Never got a real answer. Oh well, it was nice to say hi to Granny and Papa!

I had three signings yesterday, all were long. The first one was single Bo, but he read every single word of every single page. Stopped explaining the docs, as he was reading them anyways. Nice guy, but he had been burned by hidden prepayment clause before, and doesn't take chances anymore. Several phone call to LO, two hours later I am leaving for another appointment which I now have 30 minutes to get to 30 miles away by country roads, I'm with two sister's, one acting as Attorney in fact for another sister, doing an investment property loan, Messy house/ office / barnyard kinda combo thing going on. Dogs, cats and I think it was a ferret, could have been a rat. Felt like I was in the movie Deliverance, without the toothless hillbillie men. Didn't have any problems signing except they were very slow at signing. Hour and a half later, I'm on my way home, get a call from Title Co. asking can I do signing at 5:30pm in a town I just came from. It's 3:30pm and I am still 40 minutes from home. OK. Glutton for punishment. I tell her my fee is xxx.xx, she says well I have already charged 2xx.xx on the HUD, would you have any objection to taking that for your fee. I say I never turn down extra money. That was the bright spot in my day. That signing was for a retired military couple just returning from a two year stint in Korea. I promptly thanked them for their service, explained my son is at Ft. Jackson, SC right now doing his AIT. The gentleman replys he was stationed there for awhile in the 90's. Turns out they both served in the same company my son is in. Small world, huh. Very nice folks, but they also were readers, first the husband, then he would pass the doc to her, then they would sign. I got home around 7:45pm. Had to fax back part of the package then took it to Fed-ex for drop off as they are open till 9pm here. Made for a very long day. But other than the length of time, wasn't too awful. Have a great Father's Day everyone, I know I will.

What was going through my mind as I read this were some admonitions I've seen recently in a couple of different places addressing common "notary errors" that included sending back docs that weren't clean or that had bent corners. If they only knew what we had to go through some times to get these things signed!! Wink
