since when does an attorney have his client write their own letters? And why 'threaten' - my lawyer would just do it

Might be time to leave legal aid and find
an attorney who will put some teeth into what you want.

Re: Well, thanks for the help....
If your friend is an attorney, he or she has access to many form letters. However, just the facts should suffice: On such and such a date, A agreed to X work on Y date and B agreed to pay A $$$ for the services. A completed the services as promised. B has breached the agreement by failing to pay A $$$ as agreed upon. Demand for payment was made on ________ dates. If full payment is not received by ________ date, a collection action will be filed in ______________(your local small claims or other court). Attaching copies of the assignment confirmation and prior requests for payment is a good idea. Check http://www.consumeraffairs.com/consumerism/small_fl.html and http://www.consumeraffairs.com/consumerism/small_fl.html for more information.
Good luck!

Re: Well, thanks for the help....
Not all attorneys understand the nuances of the notary signing agent's business. Nice attorneys who are busy often use the client/friend's letter and then reframe it to "make sense" from a legal stand point. That way they meet the needs of the friend while reducing the friend's face time and discussion ad nauseum over a simple matter. Sometimes the attorney will simply drop the client's letter into a letter with their own on letterhead and in a lawyerly envelope and tell the offender that if they don't pay attention to the client's letter and pony up then expect to be dealing with them in the very near future.
Wendy's attorney friend is actually a "friend" who is trying to save her a little cash by getting a collection letter.
That's my spin on her post. Been wrong before but I don't find the original post so bizarre.
