For the person who accepts

the e-doc signing Friday morning at 10:00 in Broomfield for $100.00, your fellow notaries say thanks. NOT. I personally hope it becomes your signing from Hell.

It's even worse in my area, I recently got a call from an SS "the other Notary wasn't able to print the docs". They only were paying $65 (included printing of the docs), told them sorry, but I could do it for $XXX. They never called back so I imagine someone took it.

Received a call for 75.00 for edocs. Told them my fee was $XXX. They said bye. Sure someone took it. Gas and supplies too high!

Have anyone figured out why since the gas prices have gone up, the fees offered by the signing companies have gone down?

Re: Unfortunately or fortunately -- however you want

to look at it, I didn't get the name, but I did hear TITLE COMPANY -- making the $100 a worse slap in the face than had it been from a SS, which would still be a pretty poor price. Her final statement was "I'll see what I can do" i.e., about my rate -- yeah, right. Someone has grabbed it up, and as I originally said, I hope it is a nightmare and SNAFU.

Why so bitter?

You named your bottom price and they decided to search for someone else. Why begrudge someone else doing it? Maybe they are closer or have an appointment already in that area and can do it for what they feel is their bottom line price. If you wanted to do it so badly, maybe you should have compromised? JMO

Re: Why am I so bitter over this signing?

I get bitter when title companies pay signing service rates. I get even more bitter when people actually accept signing service rates from title companies which means that these title companies will continue paying signing service rates.

I've done the figures and I know what my bottom line is = what it will take for me to make a profit, what a tank of gas costs me, what a ream of paper costs, what the toner costs, what my cell costs, what my cable company costs, what my firewalls, virus checkers and other software cost to protect not only my privacy but the Borrowers, what my E&O insurance costs, what the maintenance and wear/tear on my car costs, and even what the electricity costs me to turn on my computer and printer. And as for someone else's bottom line being less than mine -- possibly, but I doubt that many of these people, not only in Colorado but across the nation, who are low-balling and accepting these signings haven't the slightest idea what each signing is costing them.

And as for compromise, yes, if they counter and it's still reasonable, I will probably accept it. However, why would I compromise when all they say is "I'll see what I can do."

When I start seeing a reduction in Borrowers closing costs -- which isn't happening -- then I will refigure my bottom line.

Keep tilting at windmills

and all you'll get is whacked in the butt by the blades. Those that do not adapt will soon see themselves looking for another line of employment. The gravy days are over for now and perhaps you will need to reconfigure their costs and profit margins to keep going.
To me I name my price if we can agree, we've got a deal if we can't then good luck finding someone who'll meet your price. I don't fret over those that don't and I'd suggest you not either.

Re: Why so bitter?

I agree with you wholeheartedly. I work by volume and quantity. I have a mobile office in my car and if I get a call to perform a closing in the area I am in, yeah I am going to take it. That's the name of the game. We are all trying to make a living. It is hard enough to try and work full time in this business without someone always fussing about what someone else is charging for a closing.

My nomal fee for edocs is $100 plus $25 total of $125. I have additional costs for travelling over 30 miles one way (additional $50). What is wrong with the $100??? Do you live close by????

Carolyn,

I would like to discuss this with you further. You have been kind and helpful to me in the past, so I would like to clarify something with you. I am asking because I too have calculated costs, I hope with the same carefulness as you have expressed. And by the way, I am not the one who took the broomfield assignment.

My calculations have put me at the needed profit to be at $1.15 per page of the document. No less. When I am called, and the rate quote is low, I ask two things. How many pages is the document, and who is expected to do the printing?. If they say 40 pages or less, then I am ok with a $65.00 to $75.00 quote and then let them know I accept on the basis of what they tell me the document size is. Then I let them know that if the document is larger, there are additional costs and that I reserve the right to add those charges. There is no way I will take a 100 to 120 page document signing for this amount. On these terms, sometimes I am hung up on, other times, we work out an agreeable amount. 80 Pages for 90 to 100 dollars still clears my profit margin. Am I way off base here? Comments appreciated.

I don't think Renee is off base. I agree with Renee because I made my calculations based on what I need that works for me. 90 pages at 90-125 dollars covers it. My drive limit is 20 miles and anything over that I clearly mention is additional. Factoring tolls and so forth I do come out on top. If they accept then fine if not, move on to the next person. I made the choice not to accept. If it works for the next person then fine.

If I get offered a low ball fee, which happens sometimes (because most in my area are not avaiable umtil the evening) then I make it up on the next closing. I like being flexible because it's better to have some $$$$ then doughnuts with a hole in the middle.

No, I agree, I take closings for 65 to 75 with 75 to 80 page printing cost.
