New Take on a Bounced Check
Did a closing in December for $175 fee. Chased the SS and finally got paid in March. Received two checks, one for $100 and one for $75. The $100 check cleared, the $75 check bounced, (plus a $10 ding from my bank.)
Chased the SS again and got another check for the $75 two weeks later and deposited.
Got a bounced check notice from my bank last week. The replacement check for $75 which I deposited in March, bounced...again...in June. Another $10 ding for me.
Called my bank to ask how I could deposit a check in March--I assumed then that everything was kosher--and it gets bounced in June. My bank told me that a banking institution has three years to bounce or reject or whatever they call it or do with it.
It was LDSS (Loan Document Signing Service--Shawna Owens) out of Riverside California.

Take the check to their bank and cash it when there is money in the account. Good Luck. It's been a while since I've done any work for LDSS but I do believe it's been over 2 years now.

I always have a record of the title or lender involved in each signing. I can always contact the SS client and let them know that the SS they hired is not paying their notaries. SS don't want badmouth of not paying notaries.

Calnotary, I tried what you just suggested last week with an escrow but they don't realy care as they have not responded. I am assuming that it's because the borrower never signed, even though I went out four times to attempt the signing. At one point I was promised by the mortgage broker a partial payment for my time. He even asked me for an invoice and just never got back to me. It's not the money, it's the pricipal. I think I'm going to send them one final certified demand letter, and probably take them to small claims court.

In my neck of the woods, writing a rubber check is fraudulent criminal behavior. Writing two rubber checks bumps it up a notch.
Therefore, I would see what your Police Dept Fraud Dept has to say. Who knows, they could have written lots of rubber checks to many people. I would still file a complaint with the PD and send a copy to the signing service and the TC.

You can turn the checks over to the State Attorney Generals office. They will try to collect.

I believe that the local county district attorney is charged with "Check Buster" enforcement, not the State AG.

In California, that is. California local District Attorneys have jurisdiction over bad check enforcement.

I had one from LDSS as well, BUT
I called Shawna and she took care of it. According to her, there were some problems with stolen checks on the original account and she had to close that account and open a new one. My check cleared the day after I spoke to her.

Re: I had one from LDSS as well, BUT
We are currently in the midst of re-evaluating our finances and implementing a plan to pay all of our creditors. Your patience in this matter would be greatly appreciated. We intend to pay each and everyone of our creditors in full as quickly as possible.
We as a company are going through hard times, and working hard everyday to clear up all our debt. LDSS no longer cuts checks to our notaries, we only cut money orders as of 6/25/07. We now have a new accountant on board and we are working to correct this problem together. We are paying the oldest invoices first and forward, and keeping the current invoices paid.
If you have had a check bounce please email Jenna @ [e-mail address], she will work with you to correct this.. sorry for all the inconviences.
Thank you ,
Shawna Owens LDSS, INC.
