NotRot's new features

I just went to 'find a notary' to check my listing and noticed that I can now be rated. So I played around and rated myself (exceptional of course! LOL) but I can't see where I can check my ratings, even tho I chose to 'share with Notary' (me).

Sorry if this has already be discussed. If so, I must have slept through that thread. TIA

I don't see the rating part on mine

Too bad, it would be fun to rate myself...

For the present I am against the notary rating system.

Once upon a time I would have been for it. However, SSs who won't pay notaries will not be honest in rating them either. I am a fan of NR's and glad to see them take any steps to improve things for us, but I just don't feel good about the rating system. Perhaps I will change my mind, but thieves don't usually mind telling lies either.

Right on, Brenda. Leopards don't change their spots.

Improving our profession, IMHO, is not well-served by a rating system...I believe the problems of NSA identity and respect have a deeper base: Education and Knowledge of laws and duties; Security savvy; State Advocacy involvement; and Business Acumen.

Networking amongst ourselves is a proven track for the providing of a quality service.

A focus on a rating system does not address the systemic need for a cohesive membership dedicated to uniting under common goals, that of ligitimizing this industry on many levels, nor does it solve, really, non-payment issues.

Just another opinion in the moonlight,
Susie

The joke is on me...at first I read it: Leotards don't change their spots.

Re: For the present I am against the notary rating system.

True dat, sister. I once dissed a company on this board for not paying a notary friend and gave them a bad rating on another site. I had NEVER worked for the company, but they found out that I gave them a bad rating and they gave me a bad rating in return, even though I had never worked for them. What MoMo Jackbags.

Re: For the present I am against the notary rating system.

I'm with you Susie...I think rating a notary is very similar to rating a company, it's all in the eye of the one that's doing the rating. As a SA you may have trouble collecting because you MAY HAVE forgotten to invoice per instructions. When you bash that company for slow pay how is anyone to know what you may have or have not done? So we blackball that company because of a one time posting? Same holds true with us, perhaps we have a personality conflict with a scheduler BUT do our job. Should we be blackballed because we didn't "act" a preconceived way? I'm glad that Harry at least added our option to have comments made public.

It appears to me that the rate-er is in control

not the rate-ee (notary)...but I could be wrong.

Good, Sue. Hopefully that's how it is.

Re: For the present I am against the notary rating system.

All good points. For example, I have had a couple of "situations" with people who have asked me to back date or do other illegal things. I have no doubt they would not give me a good rating, yet I did the right thing. And I doubt there is a person amongst us (if they're honest) who didn't made a mistake or two while on their learning curve, which they have since corrected. Also - at the risk of putting some really bad ideas into people's heads - is there a way to stop someone from either filling their own profile with unrealistic glowing reports or adding uncomplimentary ratings to their competition? (Or does the "make public" cover that?)

That's the downside. On the upside, when we do an exceptional job, it would be nice to be able to get recognition for it. Guess we can't have it both ways!

Sounds fair to me Becca

If you never worked for the company, you shouldn't have been rating them either. I don't blame em for doing the same thing to you, I would too.

I rated myself and couldn't see the results. Are others able to see it too, or is it only for the inquiring notarie's mind?

Re: I found mine. Harry?? Are we able...........

it does give a choice if it is for their eyes only or for notary only or for all to see. Most likely they are going to choose the first one for their eyes only, however, I'm not sure if other SA can see it too, muchless us.

Pesonally, I have to agree with Brenda at this point. There are A LOT of dishonest companies out there and I would not agree on their rating and there is nothing to counter the rating either. They can be doing it for revenge or whatever and you have no way of defending yourself.

At first I thought it was a good idea too Brenda, but now I think it can be very misleading by all parties.

just my thought!
