For those of you that don't know, eventing has 3 phases, dressage, stadium jumping and cross country.

Lisa, were the pictures of dressage like number 47-53?

Those were all beautiful and I looked at every single one. THANK YOU for sharing them.

That was dressage, all flat work, no jumping at all.

Have you ever watched the really advanced dressage riders do the musical freestyle? It's on RFD tv sometimes. I love watching that, dancing on a horse!!

I have never watched real competitions but I saw a movie (somewhat true, I think, - "Long Short" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0385638/) about a single mother who won a dressage competition. After seeing that I became a fan of dressage and seeing a horse dance.

The thing that's amazing to me about a horse learning to dressage is that it can't feel normal to the horse unless they really like to "dance". A lot of teaching and training goes into that kind of performance.

Re: OT - More Horseshow Pics!! TOO early to type

It was "Long SHOT" not "Long SHORT".

I lived in Contra Costa County for 15 years mostly in Walnut Creek, Danville, San Ramon area. My favorite place was Quincy, I live there and in Graeagle for 5 years which is in the middle of Plumas National Forest. I loved Quincy, but there wasn't any real work up there Frown

California is a very beautiful state. I have had the good fortune to see the West Coast line from San Diego south a good ways into Mexico (shorter trip) and from San Francisco north until cutting over to the east to see Mt. Shasta (long trip) and then back south to Sacramento. The scenery is breathtaking.

Lisa - I know that you and your daughter will appreciate this video from the World Equestrian Games 2006 Freestyle Final. It gave me goosbumps when I watched it because it was so beautiful.

What kind of horse does your daughter own? When we lived in Chicago we owned a thoroughbred - my daughter and I both rode dressage and she jumped as well.

Cid aka Mad Hatter (show name) is a Medicine Hat Paint/TB cross. He's 16.2 hands and as all true medicine hats have, bright blue eyes. He's very pretty and gets tons of compliments.

I wished Allegra liked dressage a little more, but maybe when she's a little older.

I looked up what a "Medicine Hat Paint" is - "predominantly white with dark ears and blue eyes." Sounds beautiful. Crossed with a TB it would be taller than a typical Paint - right?

Yes, he's a big boy! Very big boned and a beautiful mover! He's got very long legs, otherwise my 5'2" daughter would look too small on a 16.2 hand horse.

A Paint body and TB legs!
