OT: Outlook

I have trouble with Outlook and some of the issues have been resolved, but now I can receive messages but I can't send.
I am using the "free 30 day Standard Office 2007 version" to see if I want to purchase the 2007 Office Standard version.

I purchased the Student version months ago, but its not what I want. I like gmail, but I have been told Outlook is better.

Notaries have posted they like Outlook, but I think I just don't get it !! Any help would be appreciated.

Were you able to send previously, then all of a sudden you can't send anymore? Or have you never been able to send? Troubleshooting will depend on your answer....

Outlook is OK, mostly. My cable company recommends Outlook Express instead of Outlook, so that's what I use.

When sending from Outlook, the SMTP settings are critical. If you are sending to a gmail account, the setup is a bit different than sending to an AOL account or many other accounts. Gmail has an excellent help section on configuring different email clients with their email accounts. http://mail.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?topic=1555

Joan, I have been using outlook for years and like it.
I recently upgraded to 2007 and like it even better.
I agree with PAW that the settings need to be right and they can be a bit particular.
If you get the required sens and receive settings for each of your email accounts and the link he suggested does not fix your problem you can give me a call and I should be able to help over the phone.
Don't give up on 2007 as it has some good features.

Joan, try going to Mozilla.com and downloading their Thunderbird. it's a free d/l and works better than Outlook. Although it is only an email program, no calendar, contacts, etc.

I use Outlook, but sometimes I wonder if I should keep using it. It is slow. Perhaps this is because it has lots of capabilities that I don't use, such as an appointment calendar.

Re: OT: Outlook has a lot of benefits!

Please don't give up on it just because you're having configuration issues.

The Outlook calendar synchronizes easily with my Palm Pilot. I'd be lost without being to check appointments on the road, and modify, add, etc. Being able to color-code appointments is very nice; I use "Must Attend" for signings.

Lady Rouge (she of the Red Hat) has recently discovered Outlook's Calendar, so we sync our Calendars, making social appointments easier to manage.

The Contacts feature of Outlook makes finding people fairly easy.

Outlook's calendar also enables associating one or more Contacts with an Appointment, a very handy thing.

**Lady Rouge (she of the Red Hat) **

Shouldn't that read Lady Beret Rouge or some such?

Re: OT: What's in a name?

If my highschool French is still as reliable as it never was, it'd be "Mme. Chapeau Rouge".

Sandi is a member of the Red Hat Society. Her Red Hat Queen nom de chapeau is "Lady Rouge", her chapter is "The Red Hat Sassy Lassies".

French adjectives of color follow the nouns, as do some things in English like ... wait for it, wait for it ... Notary Public.

Good to see you, Brenda!
