Printer performance
I recently upgraded from a HP 1320 DTN to a HP 4200DTN and I'm very pleased with the overall performance. Yesterday I noticed that a set of loan docs was printing slowly so I checked my settings. I always use pcl5e rather than pcl6 and I have Adobe 8 so I looked a bit more and discovered that I had not selected print as image. I did a test with the docs and it took 7 min. 15 sec. the 1st time. Then I selected print as image and the same docs printed in 2 min. 50 sec. I have not had time to test other docs but I thought this was worth passing along.
Does anyone know if print as image will speed up all docs or just some?
I realize this suggestion is not new but wanted to post the actual printing times. Thanks to all who have provided printing help before. Particularly Paul & Andy.

I should have added that there were 88 pages of mixed letter & legal.

On Friday of Last Week...
...I had the same slow printing issue & like you the remedy was to check "print as image". I could have sworn that box was previously selected because I wasn't having any issues prior to then, but it wasn't. As far as your question is concerned, I believe the "print to image" selection is unique to Adobe. Looking at the print options in a MS Word document doesn't show "print as image" as a possibility. No expert here...perhaps one of our other NotRot computer gurus has the definitive answer.

I am not a computer guru by any means, but yes, the print as image is because it's a PDF file. PDF's are usually read only documents and thus are really "images".
