Requested copies of a "sample of notary seal"
There was a request to send a copy of a sample of the notary seal to a local signing company and was wondering if it would be appropriate to do so, and if it would be a good idea to "strike" through it. TIA

Your notary seal should be used only for notarial acts. In fact, I believe your CA notary laws prohibit providing your seal for anything else. Just tell the signing company that you are not allowed to provide copies of your seal. They can always check your commission, or have you fax them a copy of your commission. There is no reason for a signing company to have a copy of your seal.

Sylvia is correct as usual, check you CA handbook...
The seal is only used to seal a notarial act. Your employer should not have a proble with it, I've never seen a situation where they do. Good luck

Quote them Section 8207 Government Code of the CA notary Manual A notary public shall not use the official notarial seal except for the purpose of carrying out the duties and responsibilities as set forth in this chapter. A notary public shall not use the title “notary public” except for the purpose of rendering notarial service

I think most companies are aware of our CA prohibition from using our Seal for anything but a notarial service and they want to find out who is "new/dumb" or a deadly combination of both.
Send your CA commission letter instead
