Scheduling pickup with UPS
Some of you have mentioned that you call UPS to have them pick up packages from you. I called today and they said that it was not possible for me to pay the pickup charge on my account while the package charges go on the return label the title company sent me. Either I have to pay for the whole thing or the title company has to pay the pickup fee (which I don't think they would appreciate).
Is that true? How do those of you who schedule pickups handle this?

I schedule the pickup online, and let the reciever pay for it. Most of the TC's have a negotiated rate with fedex and ups and don't end up having to pay the pickup fee.
Fed ex does the same, they mistakenly billed me for 6 outgoings one day, and I saw a $12.50 pickup fee on each one, even though they picked them all up at the same time, same day. When I called in to get them to correct the billing, the pickup fee to the reciever came off, and the pricing was about $8.00 less than what my charges were.

I have the receiver pay the pick up fee. The only box here in my town is in the courthouse which is a PIA trying to find a parking space and then I have to go through security to get to the box. Easier to leave on my front porch.

Do You Think...
...leaving a package for pickup on your front porch is a good idea from a security perspective? Maybe your situation is completely different from mine, but I would never do that even though I reside in a neighborhood where I completely trust my neighbors.

Re: Do You Think...
They send us packages that get left on our porches. All the borrowers info is there whether the docs are signed or not. And saying that, email is not secure either. You don't have to be a very talented hacker to get onto someones email server.

It's Rare Occurrence...
...when a delivered package is left outside my home for any extended length of time. I don't feel comfortable leaving them there & make sure deliveries are checked on constantly. It's just one more thing that can go wrong in my opinion.

In Fact...
...this thread prompted me to check the front porch & a package had been delivered within the past half hour or so.

I always have all carriers pick up from my front porch
Never had a problem. I understand where Dennis is coming from, I think it's great how serious he takes the privacy of our borrowers. But at the end of the day not all of us can "babysit" the packages.

Re: It's Rare Occurrence...
I'm not home enough to check all the time. I have a note on my front door to please deliver to the back, but the UPS guy won't do that. Back porch is screened in, so I've had several UPS packages get rained on when left on the front stair. I've got a 16 year old daughter that is an eventer, and we own 4 horses. I spend most of my spare time, if I have any, at the barn or the trainers barn, or hauling a horse somewhere. I spend almost if not more than 8 hours a day on the road for closings and title abstracting. I spend very little time at my house.

Re: Do You Think...
I can't be here to check packages when they deliver them to me at home as I work FT during the day...they are usually here when i get home waiting for me. I try to have them delivered to me at work but that doesn't always happen.
