Signing agent test
I've been signing loan docs for 8 months now and a signing company is asking me to take a closing agent test. Is there a source where I can obtain some specific answers to specific questions? Let me know. Thanks

Just make sure you are familiar with loan docs, they are testing your knowledge. If you have been doing loan signing for 8 months you should be able to answer the questions they ask.

Like you should know the common ones, like the REG Z, TIL, etc.

Have you tried the search feature on here? That pretty much is your best resource to find information.

But, like the rest of us, you should take the test yourself. No one gave me the answers to any tests I have taken for potential clients, and I never asked anyone for the answers. I wanted to learn, and researched the answers myself. There is nothing like being self-employed.

Honestly this is not a hard job either, remember being a Notary you are notarizing a document, stating that the person on the paper is who is sitting infront of you signing it! If you need to explain certain documents then your in the wrong field, become a lawyer for that matter. Remember you didn't have to go to school for a few years or take a class that was in excess of 24 hours, then continuing education courses to satisfy the state for your licensing.
Just research, best bet is grab your states handbook, download it or purchase it. Go from there and you should be fine

Actually, Michael
We notaries don't notarize documents, we notarize signatures

haha that we do! That's the key point that people need to recognize instead of freaking out and not knowing where to start.
Sylvia your right on that part, our book do not state anything about loan signings, which is sad! I found maybe reading up on RESPA from a realtors book or LO can be a helpful place

>>> Sylvia your right on that part, our book do not state anything about loan signings, which is sad! <<<
The NOTARY manual is for the notary, not a signing agent. The SOS and Governor's Notary Section is not authorized to monitor nor regulate what a signing agent does. So there should be no expectation that the notary manual or SOS would provide any form of guidance on the job the signing agent is entrusted to perform.
Actually, the Governor's Reference Manual for Notaries DOES infer a notary's action during a loan signing. "Generally, a notary public may sign as one of the witnesses and as the notary public on a document. In fact, it is a common practice among Florida notaries, particularly on real estate transactions."
The Florida Department of Financial Services is responsible for regulating, including licensing, of title insurance companies, brokers, lenders, etc. So, in essence, the FLDFS would be responsible for administering and regulating signing agents as well, if it every got that far.

Michael The states handbooks do not cover loan signing docs, and that will be what the test questions will be about - loan signings.

Hi folks. I've had several people who have recommended the "search" so thank you for that. This is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks again.

Karla What answers did you expect to get??? Someone to post a list of questions you may be asked and the answers to them????? This forum is a helpful resource, but those tests are to determine your knowledge not our knowledge. If you have been doing signings for 8 months, then you should be familiar with loan docs and be able to answer their questions.

yes karla, the way you started out was like you wanted a specific answer to a group of questions. Whether you studied it or found out from a person on here, you will know it. Just depends on who you ask

Sandy,
Sylvia isn't being fresh. Yes the poster only asked a question, BUT why in the world would anyone give anyone else test answers? This isn't elementary school. For goodness sake, we are running businesses here. Act like it. I'd be ticked if someone was feeding my competion with answers so they could "pass the test." And then what, low ball business from me, only for me to go out and clean up after them??? Get your head out of the sand and run your business in a professional manner.
Sylvia is a wealth of knowledge. Be wise and listen to all that she says.

Sylvia, your A-Ok in my book

I sent Karla here and...
of course, she'd answered all questions on the test, but needed information to confirmed her answers as I didn't have time for her on the phone.
I think everyone was a bit quick to the gun in respond to her original post. IMO...Pointing her to the search button would have been sufficient.

8 minutes after her original post she gave the standard, highly ungrateful "I guess I was wrong about this forum, I'm leaving!!!!" response and you say WE were quick to the gun?
10 minutes after her original post she got a response pointing her to the search button. That's not quick enough?
Seriously, what exactly do people expect when they post a question in here? It's taking me longer to get answers from an Earthlink tech support person who I'm in live chat with at this very moment.

Andy, you know exactly what happens when someone comes on here and says they are taking a test and needs to know where to get the specific answers.
Had Karla said she had taken the test and wanted to confirm her answers, I would have been happy for her to e-mail me the questions and her answers and would have willingly gone over them with her if necessary.

Re: I sent Karla here and...
And many here would vouch for that. I think it was the "I'm taking my ball and going home" type of response that touched a nerve, since we've seen it so many times before. I'm hoping that's not really how you meant to come across, Karla. As you do your searches, you may see that over the last few years, we've been bombarded by people not willing to do their own legwork and looking for shortcuts based on other people's experience, and it got old a long, long time ago. In fact, Sylvia has been one of the most (if not THE most) patient, understanding and helpful people on this board....
