Toner question for Brother HL-5250DN

Help I am being eaten alive by my new printer and its toner cartridges.

I go through a TN-550 cartridge once a month. Up here Staples charges $75.00.
How many pages should I realistically get from this cartridge. Is there a way to stretch the amount of ink (perhaps an adjustment on the computer or something).
Is there a cheap internet site to go to for remanufactured or refilled cartridges?

Thanks for the help.

I use tonermax.com. They have the brother tn580 high yeild toner $66 and they have free shipping. I also followed another suggestion on the forum and changed my printer setting to 300 dpi which saves on the amount of toner used. Hope this helps.

You can get the TN580 high yield toner for $39 at this website, $35 if you buy 3. http://www.ldproducts.com/Brother,2,manufacturer.html I haven't been able to find a refill kit for this cartridge yet. You can decrease the toner use by setting your printer to 300dpi and selecting the toner saver mode.

Good company, and they sell remanufactured drums reasonably also.

I use think4inc.com. they have some really good prices and totally warrant all of their products. I think I paid $32.00 or someplace in that area for new - and I stress NEW, toner cartridges. you can use compatible toner cartridges and they are cheaper and do the job - at least that is what I have found.

I have refilled one cart 3 times so far. Each refill is under $15 on ebay and I get 3000 pages each.

The good thing is, there is no tools needed as the refill hole is already there.

I have a MFC7420. I have a question. How do I reset it to the 300DLI from 600 so I save on toner. Thank you in advance for your help with this question.

I refill from tonerkits.com but I use the toner for the hl-5140(TN570) I have 5 refills in the original cartridge and every time is almost 7K pages. I paid 15 dollars each refill. Hope this helped.

Changing DPI

Go to Start-> Printers and Faxes, right-click on your printer and select Printing Preferences. There should be an Advanced Tab where you can select the resolution and also turn on toner save mode.

Sending in used cartridges for refilling

Is there a place we can send our used Brother Cartridges to be re-filled and returned? Seems like this option would present further discounts.

Re: Taking in used cartridges for refilling

Google 'Cartridge World' and see if there's a store near you. I get my TN 540 refilled there in less than one day for about $35.00.

Re: Taking in used cartridges for refilling

Misty, Thank you very much. I just changed that and also found where the toner saver selection was checked off, so I checked on for that also. Thank you again and have a great week, Maureen.

Re: Taking in used cartridges for refilling

PA_Notary_II Thanks for the Cartridge World Tip. There are several within 10 miles. They will charge me $40.00 to refill the TN-580. (Brother 5250 printer)
