VA New law Effective July
In VA the new law starts next month that all notarization stamps must include notaries ID number. No problem....I've had some of the TC's, SS's and web services such as Closeline ask me to email or call them with my ID number....does anyone see anything improper with this or is it just SOP? Thanks.

I sent a copy of the new laws to all my title and signing companies, yes they are requesting a copy of your certificate, not a big deal, I send mind out to almost every new company that I work for.

I don't think that our notary registration number MUST appear on our stamp (although that's a good idea to have it put on there if you are reordering one), but we do have to write the number somewhere in our notarial certificate. All those who did not have a number assigned to them were to receive one before July 1st. At least this is my understanding.

You are right, the number does not have to be on our seal, in fact, we still don't have to use a seal, but it does have to be on what ever we sign. I have gotten in the habit of printing my name under my sig, so it really isn't that big of deal to include my number. I am so bummed out, I just got my new 'super duper' stingray stamp ~ with no number included. Time to reorder, I'm just not sure where to get one right now.

Yes, that was actually kind of funny "... the notary shall affix a sharp, legible, permanent, and photographically reproducible image of the official seal. However, ...failure to affix an official seal shall not in any way impact the legality or efficacy of the paper document."
I guess that's good, in case we forget to stamp the doc, the notarization is still valid. Just seemed funny that they tell us we shall stamp with a seal, but if we don't it's still a valid notarization. (Note this is only for paper docs, electronic notarizations will require the electronic seal.)
