What would you do?
Okay, so I got a call on Friday to do a signing this evening at 7pm. To start off the company is a notorious low-baller and had to "get approval" and call me back. They then preceded to tell me that an hours drive one way really wasn't that far. Anyway, I agreed to a slightly lowered price and instantly regretted not sticking to my guns. But, that is my fault. So, at 4pm I still don't have docs (big suprise) and I called the mortgage company to notify them. They are still trying to get closing docs finalized and probably won't have them for me for another 2+ hours. Now my 7pm signing is a 9pm signing and I have 30 some pages of fax backs after that. So, what would you do? I am considering calling the signing company and telling them that there will be an additional fee for a signing after 7pm. Is that professional or should I just suck it up?

Call them and tell them they didn't hold up their end
and now you are moving on to other clients. Or play their game and be ticked off that they are running your business.

You do what you feel is right, I have charged for a closing that is similar to the situation as yours. They set the appointment and didn't keep the time they asked for so charge more. I would like to see all of us closers, start taking a position with companies, by charging at the time of closing and not invoicing. The Appraisers have been doing it for years. I think we should also all agree to stop lowering our fees. If they can't afford the price go somewhere else. I just told my biggest client that I have new fees for out of county and they wouldn't accept it so I told them that I would ONLY do closings for them in my Primary county. It took a big chunk of business from me, but I don't regret on little bit. Sorry about the venting, but we spend so much time complaining and not enough time doing. So I started doing. I hope others will do this too. Just in FYI closer back in 1995 where getting paid 100.00. I use to work for title companies.

Thanks for the responses. I decided to call the SS and tell them that I could still do the signing but there would be an additional fee. They had no problem agreeing to the higher fee so, there it is.
