does anyone do alot of adoption notarizations?
I was just wondering how many notarizations are in the average adoption package and a few more things about it

I've done a few, but it largely depends on what country the adopted is coming from as to what is required.

I've been doing alot lately, seems someone is passing my number around. Mostly it is going to a doctors office, and having the doctor sign a form stating the couple is healthy. One of my couples (adopting 2 from Russia) had over 60 pages that needed signatures. There were multiple copies of passports, finanical documents, etc. It isn't a big money maker but it does help to fill in the gaps between loan signings. One thing to keep in mind is that some countries will not accept the notary seal if it is to expire within one year ( I guess because it takes so long for these adoptions to go through)

I also do adoption stuff, and between the reference letters, employment verifications, trips to the doctor's office, etc, it can be pretty good business (my fees are tax-deductible to the adoptive parent(s) as well).
I don't understand about the one-year to commission expiration restriction though; it would seem to me that it's only important that the commission be valid on the dates the docs were notarized? Why would it matter if it expired 6 or 8 months after the valid notarization? Must be a foreign consulate thing.

How much do you charge (total fees for adoptions)?
Thanks

Hi, Roger et al
aatatusko (sp?) is right. Many agencies require the notary commission to not expire until 12 -18 months after the date of notarization. China and Russia are the most demanding in my experience. Lots of couple adopting from West Africa now because China and Russia have become so difficult to work wtih. As these adoptions become more popular we all shall see what kinds of patterns will emerge.
One notary posted that adoptions are not a big money maker for her. I believe that. But in my state, they are big money makers. WA notary fees are as high as CA and FL. Adoption work pays me FAR better than loan work.

That would be a big problem in a state like Vermont, where all notary commissions expire on the same day every four years. During the year before the expiration date, there would't be a notary in the whole state able to satisfy the foreign country.
