A Google gmail.com is the best email address you can have
There are 3 really big reasons a notary/loan signer needs a Gmail account:
1.The ability to open all attachments at one time. No more opening each of the 3-8 attachments. This saves us a great deal of time.
2.GMail has a search button build within the system that makes it very easy to find any email sent to you. All you have to do is put in any part of the location; ie Riverside or Miller (name of borrowers)or name of the company that sent the confirmation letter with any part of the company name.
3. Gmail has so much space available that you never have to delete an email as long as you live! You can keep old loan documents for your records as long as you want (you must have a secure computer to do this). This basically means no one else could possibly have access to your computer or you need to make your computer secure, but that is another discussion.
Gmail is open to everyone so do a Google search and sign up and it FREE!
I have marketed myself as [e-mail address] so I just have all my emails forwarded from yahoo to my gmail address.

Being a LowTechie, how does that work? Forward every email individually, or is there somewhere in Outlook Express to auto forward? Hope it's the latter, and thanks for any help here.
Cheers, Susie

With yahoo I just clicked on "options" and then on "forward mail." Try options or settings in your mail box. I haven't had any problems with my gmail account.

Being another "low techie", how do you get the attachments
to open all at once and not have to open them individually after forwarding them from Yahoo to Gmail? I have tried everything and cant find out how to do it. Thx Joan.

Re: "...so I just have all my emails forwarded from yahoo to
If you are downloading your emails and attachments to your local PC and opening them in an email client, such as Outlook or Outlook Express, there is no need to worry about being able to open "all the attachments at once" on the web. Why? You aren't accessing them from the web. That's already been done during the "send/receive" portion of your email client. When you open a document attachment from your email client, you are opening it using your own PC's memory and resources. Don't even need internet connection!
If you're using Webmail (or any web based email server side client) then it may be beneficial. However, in my professional and personal opinion (wearing my "risk management" hat), I suggest that email attachments that consist of consumer's docs, should not be left on a public access server such as Gmail or Yahoo or MSN. Use an email client on your local PC, download all the emails and attachments, removing them from the server.

I'm with PAW.
Once the email messages (and attachments) have been recived on your PC, they get deleted from the server. Much more secure.
Open attachments directly instead of downloading 'em can cause all kinds of "interesting" behavior. For just one brief example, suppose there's a paper jam?r With some of the benighted packages that are so "helpful", you'd have to start at Page One. If you'd downloaded, you could open the file again....
Just my tuppence.

Re: I've had problems with Gmail
Just wanted to give you a heads up... I've had problems receiving packages via my Gmail account on several occasions. I've had to start a separate AOL account - which had absolutely no problems receiving these packages. Its pretty strange! I use my Gmail account as my main account and if something happens and a package doesn't come through, I have the company send it to my AOL account!

Do you forward AOL emails to Gmail? n/m

Re: I've had problems with Gmail
Not with basic Joan, you have to pay I think 20 dollars fot the "Mail Plus"in order to have your yahoo forward your emails to anyother email address. Thanks for the tip though.

Re: Your right I do have the yahoo plus account
I forgot that I do have the upgraded Yahoo account; when I started 5 years ago the free yahoo and hotmail accounts didn't have enough space for more than one loan package at a time. My suggeston is to get a gmail account and forward your loan packages manually to gmail if you can't automatically forward then.

Re: Your right I do have the yahoo plus account
Joan: Can you open all attachments at once if you have Basic gmail or do you have to have the upgraded version to do that?

Not a good idea...
To create an extra step by forwarding from Yahoo to Gmail. Why not just switch directly from one to the other? All you have to do is tell the hiring entities that your email has changed when they call for a signing as they always confirm your email address prior to sending the confirmation.
There's no doubt Gmail is the best for this business and I've been using it for everything else since it's debut.

Re: Not a good idea...
I have a lot of marketing stuff that I have my yahoo address on and when I run out, I will eventually drop yahoo and use my gmail address.
Google is just lights years ahead of the other email accounts in my opinion.

Re: Not a good idea...
I can not say the same thing here. I never receive spam in my yahoo, my gmail account is full of it.
Everytime I have e mail in my yahoo I know for sure that is genuine mail and everytime I receive email in my gmail account 90% is spam. I try to set some filters and still getting just junk mail. I did not do anything on my yahoo account in order to behave nice and clean.

Re: Not a good idea...
Check your "bulk" folder. Yahoo, by default (SpamGuard), filters 99.9% of junk but also has been known to trap 1-2% of good stuff too.
I don't use my Yahoo address except extremely rarely. However, after just one week I have 23 messages in my IN box and 913 in my "Bulk" folder. All 23 message in my IN box were junk. My "favorite" message subject this week is: The Congolese police on guard were asleep during the escape, Major Mayembe said.
