All Purpose Acknowledgment

Anyone hear of this? I received a loan package with a loose All Purpose Acknowledgement...not attached to anything. What gives?

I've seen that in one particular company's packages. I and most notaries on this board do not complete that document. An Acknowledgement must be attached to the document that was signed since you are specifically notarizing the signing of that one particular document, and only that one particular document. The title company claims the loose one is just so they have an extra in case you screw up the Acknowledgement on a document, but that's a load of BS. Giving someone a loose Acknowledgement is just asking for trouble!

I sent them an email and told them I would not be completing the form because it was illegal. They also had my home address listed on the HUD as the place of settlement. Why would they do that?

They already know it's illegal LOL

The company has been adding that loose All Purpose Acknowledgement to their packages for a long time, and many notaries have already told them it's illegal. They know it but apparently don't care and hope some new and inexperienced notaries won't know and will complete it. I just ignore the thing and either toss it or send it back blank with no comment. I've never had anyone call me and want to know why it wasn't completed.
As far as your home address on the HUD as the place of settlement - that sounds a mistake by some new person at the title company since normally the address of the title company is in that spot. However, if there is no title company involved (I've had a few of those over the years, usually a cash transaction purchase/sale), then they may have put your address down since you're the person conducting the closing.

I simply remove them from the package and chuckle.
But I am sure there are "mill babies" that do in fact complete them - sad.
