Back dating
I had a closing on Tuesday at 6:00 and received the over night package that afternoon. The closing was for Mary Smith in NC. The title docs all read Mary Smith but the mortgage docs all said Jane Smith from Michigan. I called the title company it was no big deal they would email me updated docs and we would close Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday morning they emailed me the docs with this note “If there is any way possible to date for 3/27 since we had all intentions of closing yesterday but we had the wrong docs sent. The lender is going to be super upset if this doesn't go for this month. Thanks.” I called them and told them no. They were not happy and asked me again. My issue is that this title company has been good for my business and I have never had this type of thing happen. They have a good reputation on Notary Rotary. Is this something I should take to the company and let them know they have agents asking to back date, or should I just leave it alone?

Tell the company that you love working for them, but will not do anything that jeapordizes your commission and livelyhood. If they don't understand that, then they're not that good a company anyway.

I think you have to ask yourself what it is that you want. If you hang around long enough, just about every client you have will come up against that 'special' circumstance and ask for 'special' services. So - what do you want? If what you want is to clear the planet of people who ask you to do things that are illegal - whew, well, there's a lot of work ahead of you. If what you want is to enjoy your work, enjoy your clients (regardless of their occasional indiscretions), escape the stress of being chained to some gray flannel covered cubicle - well, then you can simply say "Sorry, no can do." and keep on moving.
I just don't find this to be worth the drama and indignatious insult as a lot of other folks, I guess. It's illegal, I can't do it, sorry - but geez, they're not asking us to throw puppies off cliffs or kick baby ducks. If I was going to spend energy making the world a better place, it wouldn't be on this issue. =)

As the saying goes, "The road to he!! is paved with good intentions." Your notary certificate is based on facts, not intentions. Simply tell the title company that you cannot jeopardize your commission and perform an illegal act. I'm sure they will keep you on their 'good guys' list.
