Be careful out there!

Make sure you are safe when going to a borrowers home.
My husband repairs TV's and made a service call this morning, and the owner's boyfriend attacked him! Threw him up against a wall. He was very shaken. He went to the police dept and made a report, the police said they knew all about this guy, history of domestic violence.

The woman did call the police herself and accused my husband of attacking her boyfriend (like he is going to attack someone half his age and twice his size when he has a bad heart!).

The police have told my husband that if the couple come anywhere near him or the TV store to call 911.

I am relieved that he was only shaken. Could have been worse.
(This couple are not going to get their TV fixed! The other TV repair places in the area are going to be warned that they may suffer physical harm at that house).

Not yet Susan. But I think Bruce should press charges, but he told the police he really doesn't want to see this guy ever again, which he would have to do if he pressed charges.

The woman called a couple of weeks ago for a service call. He went out there then with no problem, but had to order the parts. He has been trying to get back out there since the parts came in. But every time he called , there was no answer and no answering machine, and the store won't let him go out on a service call unless they know someone is going to be home. The woman called the store again yesterday and was angry that no-one had gone back out. The owner of the store explained why no-one had gone back out, and she seemed fine with it. She was told that Bruce would go out there at 8 am this morning, even though he doesn't normally work on Saturdays, but the address is not far from our home.
He was working on the TV - it is one of those big screen flat panels, and he had the screen out. The guy got belligerent with him and started swearing at him, so Bruce picks up his tools and says he is leaving, and then the guy grabbed him and threw him up against the wall.
Bruce is still trying to figure out what set the guy off.

I sure understand about the "facing your abuser." Plus, if the woman doesn't back up your husband, it's a he-said-they-said thing, and even with bad guy's record of domestic violence, the judge or jury may never hear about it.

Sigh. We can but hope that the bad man's broken TV stays broken, and he has to refi to pay it off. And I ~know~ you or any of the Network wouldn't be the signing agent! Smile

Hoping for the best,
Susie

Re: Holey Moley, Sylvia! How awful! No consequences

It's the woman's boyfriend. I am not sure if he actually lives with her or not. I looked up the county court records, and he ex-husband was also an abuser. Seems she divorced one abuser only to hook up with another one!

She had called the TV store and talked to the owner, said she wanted him to go to her and repair the TV as Bruce left without it being fixed. He refused.
The police actually called Bruce's boss and told him that they believed Bruce. His boss knows him too well to even think he would have been the aggressor, but it was still nice of the police to call him.

Re: Holey Moley, Sylvia! How awful! No consequences

I'm glad to hear that Bruce is OK.

I've worked with victims of domestic violence as an advocate in Family Court; your comment about her divorcing one abuser and ending up with another is, unfortunately, not all that uncommon a situation. I would not be surprised to hear that the guy turned around and blamed her for what happened and then took it out on her, because that also fits the pattern.

I have to agree with Bruce's decision not to press charges at this time; he was shaken up, but not injured. If there is any more contact or threats then he should definitely get the police involved, but these guys are basically bullies so pressing charges now is not going to resolve anything. The guy may or may not face jail time or a fine for what he did, but you can be almost certain that the woman is the one who will end up paying for it.

Why should he stick around and fix the TV and take all the verbal abuse? He was perfectly right to pack up his tools to leave.

Joe
I have a sense of humour! But I found nothing humourous in your post. And it is April Fools day today - not yesterday!

How scary! I hope your husband is ok! With a bad heart, they could have caused him a lot more harm than that!

So sorry to hear of Bruce's experience Sylvia

I too have been a victim and it's really amazing what kinds of things go through your mind after such an event. For 6 months after my incident I couldn't bring myself to walk through a park lot or down a sidewalk where others were walking towards me. It's amazing how something that begins so innocently can make such an impact in our everyday lives. Bruce won't enter another house the same way...it could happen to any of us. ALWAYS be aware of everything that surrounds you.

Sue
I am going to worry every time he goes on a service call from now on.

I can imagine if it was a signing agent going to get loan docs signed and the terms were wrong!!!

So sorry to hear of Bruce's horrible experience, Sylvia

Thank heavens he wasn't badly hurt. It is good that you are going to alert the other TV repair places about these people. If they want a TV repaired, they are going to have to bring it into the repair shop - no home visits. And even then, I'd only let her in any shop I had!

so sorry that had to happenand then have some idoiot here

be so cruel w/ his words. I was a volunteer counselor at the battered women's clinic before I relocated and some men think they are so funny w/ the jokes but it is cruel and veiled battering... it tells me how they view women and violence and also just violence.
