Distant pickup
It's 10:48 PM and you receive a call from a SS (and no feedback on NOT ROT) that you have not done anything with in the past. The bo is headed your way and needs to sign documents tomorrow evening for lone to complete. Problem, the documents are headed to his home in another city two states and about 225 miles one way miles distant to a relatives home that he cannot reach due to trucking regulations. Assignment - leave first thing in AM and travel about 460 miles roundtrip and meet bo. No specific fee has been approved. It is critical to fund this lone that it be done near you tomorrow. Distant home where docs are is in very urban. This assignment while take you at least 10 hours to complete. Do you take it? Do you have a set fee for travel and time? Do you expend this much energy hoping it will all work out?

Yes, for $500 dollars I would do it too. P.S. It bugs me when people can not spell a simple word like "loan" not lone. It does not make you come across very well. Sorry, I just see it so much on the message boards and it drives me crazy. My 4 year-old granddaughter spells better than some people I see that post.

Sorry, it was my first post here and am learning quickly to not press "post" before checking for spelling, grammar, attitude, etc. Perhaps it was because I was "lone"ly from not being as busy today as absolutly possible. Your granddaughter must be very bright if she doesn't make simple spelling mistakes at age 4! Give her another hug.

Re: Distant pickup - I would pass on it
I would not be willing to take a chance on this one - way too many variables in there to go wrong. Maybe for my absolutely best TC clients I would do it as a favor, but for a new company with no history - no way.

Re: E-docs????
Has anyone thought that maybe e-docs would be in order here???? Seems silly for them to pay for the docs to be picked up, when e-mail is instant & much cheaper than sending a notary running all over for a huge fee. This should be a DUH!!!

I wonder why?
They wouldn't just elect to email docs and forget about the courier docs. That seems like it would be less time consuming and better financial sense. And, should I have missed something, like this is the second signer to a LOAN, there are always courier services to pick up and deliver docs, or at least meet halfway with. What are we missing from this story? It just makes little sense.

Re: Distant pickup Hint
Vince, IF you do accept the signing, be sure to get in writing that payment is due in full regardless of the outcome. My daughter accepts long distance signings regularly and that is the only way she will do it. Not getting paid for 6, 8, or even 10 hours worth of work is not worth the risks and/or expenses out of pocket. She too would charge $500 for the assignment. Others have mentioned edocs, and she sure would suggest that before things get too far. Good luck.

The fact that a Signing Service has placed themselves squarely between you and escrow is the biggest reason you must pass on this one. Ask if you can handle this direct. If not tell them to pound sand.

It makes no sense.
I doubt any of you would really want it for $500 either if it's going to take 10 hours. You will work for less than McDonald's pays? <g>.

No way, Jose.
You can make $500 or more in your own general area in that length of time and you wouldn't have the stress that would be involved in this type of situation. I would be way too leary of this. And why in heaven's name can't they e-mail them to you??
