FOIL SEALS - GOLD, SILVER
Is it okay to emboss these on LOAN docs? YES or NO. Thank you.

As you said in most cases to do this you will need an 'emosser' type stamp. Most lenders will reject embossed notary seals. (some States excepted) My advise is to only do this if you charge an extra $100.00 per foil embossed seal.

They are pretty. They are impressive. They are a PITA for the county recording office and embossers generally are going the way of the buggy whip. Don't do this on loan docs as you will not endear yourself to anyone. Use the rubber stamp. Only possible exception is when you are 'embossing' 2 or more docs that belong together...and even that can be overcome by referencing the Cert. to the document. Only use I've found for my old one is it cracks almonds pretty well.

Foil seals...
don't copy well on a copier. They leave a big black blot on scanned documents or copied documents such as reproduced in the lending industry.

Re: Foil seals...a question....
.....what is the purpose (or point?) of embossing with these foill seals? I have, on occasion, had this question put to me &, so far, had no answer. Does anyone know? TIA

Re: Foil seals...a question....a guess at the answer...
They're pretty?
The look nice and official to the signer?
They are a formality of the past which doesn't really work for the present in most cases?

I Still Use My Embossing Seal...
...(sans the foil) to tie two separate documents together. If the signature being notarized is on one page & the Notary certificate is on a separate page, I put the two together & apply the embossing seal to both simultaneously. That's the ONLY time anymore when I find an embossing seal can be put to practical use in my day to day Notary activities.
BTW Brenda...there's a couple who usually sit behind our family at church on Sunday mornings & as they sat down today I said: "Gig 'em, Aggies!". They're both Texas A&M grads & their daughter is a freshman on the Aggie track/cross country team. I made them both promise to root for KU this afternoon (4PM CST) against Kentucky. Same goes for you!

They are nice on a marriage certificate for those states that allow notaries to perform weddings.

Re: Foil seals...a question....
In one respect, most notarized multi-page documents are a security joke, because the pages are stapled together (if that). So it would be easy to remove a page, change it to terms more favorable to the forger, and staple the document back together. To overcome this problem, one can punch a hole in the upper left corner of all the pages, run a ribbon through the whole, put the loose ends of the ribbon under the foil, and emboss it.
This is the procedure used by the United States Patent Office when they issue official copies of patents (I've seen this myself). I've read that when they receive foreign patents as evidence in their cases, they require that the foreign patents be embossed in this fashion.
Some legal stationery stores sell the ribbon under the name "will ribbon", but I don't know how common it is to use it for wills.

With regard to loan docs about as useless as windshild wipers on a cows ass. But for documents heading out of the country, a nice professional touch... provided you also rubber stamp your seal next to your signature.

The XYZ sells 72 gold seals for $8 to non-members. Or you can go here and get a box of 300 for $13.35: http://www.nextag.com/gold-foil-seals/search-html

Ribbon and real estate docs don't mix
Unfortunately, putting a ribbon through real estate docs and using a foil on the loose ends would not be compatible with the recording process, which has to separate the sheets to feed them through the copier or scanner. So please don't read what I posted as a suggestion to do this to real estate docs.
