Identity Theft...

Okay I'm a newbe and worried about identity theft. Is it safe to send a W9 with our ss#? Our DL? ect.

Get a EIN from the IRS and you can do it on the phone. Use the EIN instead of your SSN for the W9, as far as your DL I usually provide mine with no problems.

ALL they need is a W-9, your commission & E&O. Everything else is over & above. Most states won't allow a copy of your Notary Seal.

You can get an EIN in 2 minutes at the IRS website. Use it for all your business dealings (and tax filings), and do not give out your SSN to companies. You do NOT have to be incorporated or have employees (other than yourself) to use an EIN.

I am doing that right now. Do I list it as a business or an individual and just NOT complete the business information such as start date, principle activity of business, etc.
