Membership renewal
I am not happy right now with Notary Rotary. I just got done getting my background check through Notary Rotary. I got an email yesterday at 8:47pm reminding me of my renewal and pending downgrade to basic ,which stated I had 5 days to renew. I paid as soon as I got the notice, then at 9:10pm I get another email that I had been downgraded to basic.
Unfortunately all my renewals are due in March. I am renewing some but not all.
I contacted Harry immediately but no reponse.

Margaret...I think it automatically downgrades you until your payment is processed. Happened to me too, lasted a day and I was puzzled also. Wrote to Harry and they got right back to me explaining the process.

The system automatically downgrades you until your payment has been processed...this doesn't mean they cancelled you early....it means until your payment is processed you're basic. Lasts a day, maybe 2...it's not you it's the way the system works.

The problem is my name is way down the list and 1-2 days being listed under basic can cost you.

Go to home and then go to MY Account. I did not know this, I get renewal emails from all the other listings I have.

It seems if you pay by paypal it takes a few days. I got an email back from Notary Rotary and I am cancelling my paypal transaction and paying by credit card which updates same day.

5 days.
I got the same message about 5 days. I don't pay much attention to when my renewals are due, I wait for the "hey, pay your bill" notice.
I'm a little unhappy about the 5 day policy. I've never heard of a company giving only 5 days notice. Need to extend that time a little longer.... just don't turn into XYZ and start mailing renewal notices 28 months in advance.

They just reset my account to change how I paid. This time I paid by credit card and it upgraded automaticaly. I still never got my question answered, eve though I asked it twice. How come I did not have 5 days as stated in the email. So beware, check your account and make sure you renew before it expires. And do not pay by paypal unless you want to wait a few days for renewal.

I get some renewal notices 30 days, 60 and 90 days in advance. I have a website, webhosting and many memberships and 5 days is not enough notice at all. I am busy all week and do alot of internet stuff on the weekends. Lately I have been working on taxes both personal and corp, car broke down and is in the shop for the third time. They gave me a crappy rental car because my car is not a year old. I am just not in a good mood today and this topped the cake.

Margaret -
First, expiration notices are not sent well in advance because people tend to procrastinate. If someone has 60 days to renew, it is unlikely they will do so the day of the notification. We don't give a lot of notice because we don't want to have to continually nag nor get into a cycle of endless membership renewal notices; we'll leave that to other organizations.
Second, in most cases, people have more time than what is indicated in the notification. Downgrades are not processed until a certain number of days have transpired from the point of initial notification. In the cases where notifications are sent in advance, the member will have the number of days remaining in the membership term PLUS an additional 5-day grace period before cancellation. There is an exception for PayPal payments. Please see item six.
Third, you are welcome to extend your membership at any time and can, in fact, buy memberships well into the future. If you do this, simply put a notice on the calendar of your choice and extend your membership at the time of your choosing.
Fourth, there are no penalties for a gap in membership coverage. That is, even if you are gone for a year, the system will still recognize your prior memberships when it prices your new one.
Fifth, your membership actually expired 30 days ago. You've been riding along for free because we've been too distracted to run the notification process.
Sixth, at the point you elected to pay by PayPal, the expired membership was terminated and a new membership was created in a PENDING status. We were waiting for your payment. However, you did not follow the instructions in the membership upgrade area and you sent your PayPal payment to the WRONG ADDRESS. Because of this and your subsequent inquiries, Grif deleted your PENDING membership earlier in the day to let you pay by credit card, which reactivated your membership. I, in turn, manually refunded your misdirected PayPal payment.

Thanks Harry for the answer, I just got the renewal email on 3/21 and it said my membership would be downgraded in 5 days. It was downgraded 20 minutes after the first email. That is all I was asking, as to why I did not have 5 days. I did know where to look for my membership expiration date, I always renew same day I get a notice because I get so busy it's easy to forget. Thanks for the explanation. I was hoping someone one here had a similar problem. I had emailed you last night right after I renewed and explained what I did and I had not gotten a reply by this afternoon before I got too busy and could not take care of it.

In a profession where we get paid per closing, and not always in a timely manner, I really thought NR would give more than 5 days notice. More like a 30 day notice. I literally live paycheck to paycheck.
