NNA got some really bad radio publicity today
I only caught a little bit of it, so I don't know all the details, but they were discussing the upcoming NNA conference on the John and Ken show on KFI today.
Apparently the NNA got Cardinal Roger Mahoney to deliver an invocation or something. He's one of the main players in the Catholic church child molesting scandal. Again, don't know too many details about that, but it seems like he's the one who simply moved priests to other churches and never got the police involved, and has been completely uncooperative with the investigations.
The part I heard was from a listener who had sent an email wanting the NNA to explain how they could justify having someone who basically advocates child rape be a part of the conference. The NNA sent back an email basically saying they always have a local religious leader do it, and since he's the leader of one of the largest religious groups in LA they didn't see a problem with it.
Someone correct me if I have any of this wrong. But knowing John and Ken, this is going to be a regularly approached subject on their show between now and the conference. Should be fun to see how it develops.

The John and Ken show has a HUGE fan following here in socal and I count myself as one of them.
I like the fact that they have gradually turned "political" in that they take on topics about politicians and their actions that I might never normally hear - they pretty much pull the covers on elected officials that feed from the public trough.
I didn't hear the broadcast about the NNA, but did get the email from them and just shook my head - they were contratulating themselves about Cardinal Mahoney. The NNA (again) show their true colors by choosing "a leader" of the church, when in fact this leader is appearing just as dirty as the priests who've been found guilty by the courts in covering these terrible crimes against children - the aiding and abetting of a crime is still a crime.
I commend J&K for their coverage of this. At the very least, it makes people think.

Personally, I would not want to be in the same room with this man. I have no idea what the NNA was thinking when they invited him to give an invocation, but as someone else suggested it raises a few questions about the whole background check thing....

As if condoning pedophilia isn't bad enough...
"Mahoney is encouraging his followers – subtly and at times blatantly - to disobey the laws of the United States. Mahoney obviously thinks the Roman Catholic Church is above the law."
"So back to Mahoney, what do you do with a person who is subject to a foreign potentate (the Pope) and who encourages his followers (5 million of them) to commit civil and possibly criminal disobedience against the laws of the United States?"
"The answer is simple enough; you put handcuffs, shackles, and leg chains on this gent and send him packing back to the Vatican…"
From the NNAs "NOTARY PUBLIC CODE OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY" Guiding Principles V. "The Notary shall give precedence to the rules of law over the dictates or expectations of any person or entity."
Am I missing something here? The NNA wrote, " You won't want to miss the exciting appearance in person of Cardinal Roger Mahony!" Why??? It WOULD be exciting if they arrested him at the conference...that I WOULD pay for.

Dang. Wish you'd heard the whole thing. It seems to
me that if there is "always" an invocation, the officiant should at least pass moral muster. There are many, many in L.A. who would be far better choices, albeit not the *largest* Church. If I were to pay to attend this shindig, I would expect, at the very least, a non-denominational officiant (who, BTW, does not condone sexual child abuse.) How can anyone feel 'blessed' by this guy?
Barring any corrections to the news, this dismal revelation should be the last nail in the coffin of this greedy, MiddleClass-stomping monster. It won't be, but it should.
Does the radio station have tapes of the shows?
Cheers, hell - pass the vino! Susie

If the NNA only had a brain...
I guess Billy and Franklin were busy...but Mahoney? after all the court trials and the cover-ups and refusal to cooperate with authorites?
Man-oh-man....who's in charge of marketing at the NNA? Dumb, really dumb move.

Re: If the NNA only had a brain...
Ain't it amazing? What idiot thought it was a good idea to voluntarily associate themselves with a man who covers for child rapists?
And I don't know which hour it's in, but if anyone wants to listen to the show you can get it here

and.....for dessert!...
I got this yesterday in e-m.
"We only hire Certified and Background Screened Notary Signing Agents..."
This statement is quickly becoming a reality.
As Executive Director for the nation's professional Notary organization, planning for your future is my job. The NNA stands at the forefront of new opportunities, and it's my charge to deliver them to you.
The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA) and the FTC Safeguards Rule require lenders to protect the private financial information of consumers. In turn, leading lenders now require the Notary Signing Agents who work for them to be background screened. The title and mortgage services companies that serve these lenders have agreed to use the NNA Certification and Background Screening as a universally recognized Notary Signing Agent credential that meets lenders' requirements.
"Certified and Background Screened" will soon be your license to perform. I encourage you to invest in your future by taking advantage of this opportunity and registering today for your Background Screening.

As I stated on another forum, when this issue was brought up...I can't understand why anyone would support the NNA. I'm glad I've never invested a dime in the NNA. If I had, I'd be demanding a full and complete refund. Disgusting!
People please, send the NNA a message and let them know that they are not acting in your best interest by supporting a man that seems to condone and cover up child rape. According to The National Notary magazine March 2007, 3.6% of membership dues go toward the National conference. Even if you will not be attending the conference in LA, if you are an NNA member you are supporting the NNA conference and Mahoney.
All of what I say is of course my opinion and my personal call for you to act now to make a difference. Take it any way you like...I'm happy to say that I do not and will not support priest-pedophiles.

Aside from the choice NNA made, why are they even including an invocation? Why is this necessary? I've been to many annual conferences that do not include invocations. Better to eliminate it and risk offending someone not Catholic or people who are atheists.
They're not the sharpest knives in the drawer, are they...

Seems like they are grabbing at any straw to obtain validity for the organization.

No problem here with the invocation, I just don't agree..
with their speaker choice and I was born and raised Catholic. And it wouldn't offend me, what the religious background was, I think we're all aiming for the same thing here. NNA will be shooting themselves in the foot for this one.
