NORTH CAROLINA BILL IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

NOTICE ALL NC NOTARIES! WE BEST WRITE OUR SENATORS! BELOW IS A POSTING FROM THE NNA.

March 23, 2007

Dear North Carolina Citizen:

A bill in the state General Assembly that would adversely affect consumers and have a devastating impact on the livelihoods of 170,000 Notaries in North Carolina has been introduced in the Senate, and we, at the National Notary Association, are asking for your help in defeating it.

The bill, SB 764, sponsored by Senator Kay Hagan, would prevent Notaries from notarizing any real estate documents at closings without the presence of an attorney, and would also drive up consumers' costs, limit your choice of settlement providers and restrict competition.

We have provided a sample letter of opposition to the bill that we're asking you to use as a model in e-mailing your own Senator. The more people who send letters of opposition, the better chance we have of defeating this harmful proposal.

Please feel free to tailor the sample letter to your personal situation and to use your own words. To find out who represents your district, go to www.ncleg.net/homePage.pl, find the "Who represents me?" tab on the far right of the page and enter your zip code.

If you have any questions about this proposal, or would like to know how to become further involved in our campaign, please contact Kelly Rush in our Public Affairs Department at (818) 739-4000, ext. 4150.

Respectfully,

Timothy Reiniger
Executive Director

I won't help the NNA do anything!

I've written my own letters, but I'll tell you one thing, when "canned" letters are involved people don't pay as much attention.

Amen Lisa! One thing....last year when Tennessee was facing similar legislation and I was still a paying member of XYZ I contacted them to see if they would support SA's, they wrote me back and told me they didn't want to get involved. Could it be they like NC more? ~I crack myself up...hahahahaha~

I don't think they like us more, they just probably have more members in this state as notary closings have only been allowed here for 2 year. The new notaries don't know any better than to join the NNA!
