Yeah, it has been several months since I have been able to come to terms with these folks. There must be a lot of newbies who usually work for $50 and see a $90.00 piggyback as gold. By the way, was this for e-docs and a long drive, too?

I requested to be removed from their database as well quite sometime ago, but they still keep calling me. This was local, and overnight docs, but is still way to low for a piggyback.

I was called and told we were greedy for raping the clients
by charging ridiculous fees as it was not a big deal to drive and have a signing.... she said $50-60 for a signing was more than adequate and an additional $20-25 for e-docs made it extremely profitable and again stated that she was tired of the notaries raping and ripping off tc, bo, and anyone they can.....
I am getting extremely frustrated with the rudeness of the low ballers pushing at me when I am politely declining the work and I am not being rude to them.

Hmmm the fees borrower's most often complain about at signings are mortgage junk fees, broker's fees when they often never met face to face and just spoken to on the phone, or appraiser's fees whom again, the have never met.
It seems to me that signing services are trying to hold the line on low-ball prices, just as we should try to hold the line for more reasonable prices. Remember how flexible everyone gets at EOM!

Re: I was called and told we were greedy for raping the clients
I agree with your comments about what borrowers most often complain about, although I'm not sure what you mean about signing services holding the line "for more reasonable prices". Many of them are still charging the same old fees to THEIR clients, while trying to squeeze us for our fees. OR they feel they need to reduce their fees to just to keep their clients from going elsewhere. (This is supply and demand at work... less business, more competition, and something has to give. Some will react by driving down prices to get volume, but I think those are likely to be the ones who fail, especially if they can't provide top quality service. But everyone has their own business niche or market plan; some want to be "Walmart" and some want to be "Nordstrom".)
However, I don't ever recall a borrower commenting about how wonderful the signing service was or how much they appreciated what they did. Most aren't even aware there IS such a thing as a signing service, yet many ss keep more than half the fee. On the other hand, I have had many people offer profuse thanks to me for my time and services. I can even recall one guy looking at the notary fee on the Settlement Statement and saying I wasn't charging enough! (And I was getting a pretty decent fee from a ss for that one...) Several others have commented that they hope I'm getting paid well for what I do. Well, of course not everyone thinks that - and I'm sure I'm not the only one who has heard that kind of thing, but that's not the point...
For a signing service to use those kinds of intimidation tactics to tell someone else that they should be happy making sub-standard fees that barely cover overhead, I think is pretty low. (I won't print what I REALLY think... especially about this company, which I know is capable of this kind of conduct!) Obviously, they must prey on those who don't know any better or are easily intimidated. And are they that lazy that they can't just call the next person on the list? Or maybe there aren't really that many out there who have a clue about what they are doing and are willing to work for peanuts... I sure hope it's the latter!

That's pretty sad, when they're the middle man, reaping a benefit from our raping and ripping off prices! That's like the pot calling the kettle black.

Re: I was called and told we were greedy for raping the clients
obviously you were dealing with a clerk that cannot go above what her employer will pay out or an owner that may be looking at their bottom line. Lots of them are going to be forced to close up shop as lenders and mortgage companies are biting the dust. I'm sure she is nervous about her future income as well. Hopefully, the networks will start to gain a brand new and much needed foothold on TCs as this happens.
I am putting together an intro letter geared towards just that.

Used to be that these companies would take a "no" and move on to the next one on the list. Maybe they'd get in a nasty comment, but the bottom line was that they had to get the assignment placed and coudn't waste time on chatter. I've had messages left on my cell that I returned within 5 minutes, and they already found someone else.
If they're taking the time to argue with you - even though you've declined - it probably means they're running out of "next ones" to call and are somewhat desperate. Use this to your advantage; negotiate if you have to, but remember that ultimately you are the one who decides your fees.
If all else fails, just hang up - you've already politely told them no, so why waste your time with a debate?
