Re: http://www.notary.org/

Thanks for responding! I've been all over google, our state website, and PAN's forum. Nowhere is there a printable jurat for PA...unless I'm seriously losing my mind and I looked right past it. =)

you could also check your sos for format and.....

type up your own in word and have it on your computor for the future.......that's what i did and also for the jurat.......that way if they don't seem to read right on the doc you can line thru it and write "see attched ack [jurat] and attach your own......

Re: PA - Jurat Adjust to your States requirements

We don't need that id info at the bottom. Becky, although PAN says not to use one, I use a jurat stamp all the time. They apparently won't sell them because they think you'll just slap it on stuff wehre it doesn't belong. But if you know how to be a notary and you do loan docs, it's a great tool to have.

Hold them horses!

A jurat is not a notary power in Pennsylvania the way it is in many other states. A PA notary really can't just slap a jurat on any old thing and sign it - it has to be with an affidavit, verification or written oath, all signed by the client.

Which is why PAN doesn't sell jurat stamps - many notaries (educated and not) really don't know when to use one properly. It is a great tool if you know how to use it, but the percentage of you who do is way too small.

Yes, but she still didnt get the message

In a later post, she asks for the PDF again. Im concerned she will use it like a loose certificate.

Re: Yes, but she still didnt get the message

Not directed at her because I know nothing about her but I always wonder how many PA notaries truly know their job. I can't tell you how many times a week I use my venue stamp - and often for documents prepared by PA title companies. I also use my ack stamp all the time as it's easier than doctoring up incorrect wording. I saw a letter not too long ago prepared by a divorcing couple. The notary signed his name at the bottom & used his stamp & embosser - no venue, not one bit of notarial language. And now, another election 'snafu' in my county - the finance affidavit wasn't signed by the treasurer in the presence of the notary. Truly amazing that anyone would actually ever notarize an election document as they are probably the most scrutinized documents in PA - scrutinized hoping there is an i not dotted or a t not crossed.

I could tell you stories. . .

Our instructors return from seminars shaking their heads.

We grade our home study courses and figure the submitters are closing their eyes and taking stabs at answers with a pencil.

We answer telephone calls and emails and wonder why the Secretary of State disciplined only 8 notaries in January 2007.

It's discouraging. I'm beginning to realize that it occurs most often when a notary is presented a document prepared by someone who doesn't know what they are doing. The document preparer has slapped inappropriate notary wording on the document, and the notary does not take the time/use enough common sense/care enough (pick one) to think it through and act accordingly.

Maybe they think the odds are pretty good that they won't get caught if they do it wrong. And you know what? They're right. . .

Re: I could tell you stories. . .

part of the problem is that there aren't a lot of good answers out there for us. You should read the dialogue from a live chat I did not too long ago regarding aka/fka/nka, etc. I've actually drafted (this now reminds me to finish and send it) a letter to the SOS asking for clarification because the live chat completely contradicts everything I thought (due to statements made at seminars and in the Notes) and gives completely different answers in the same chat.

Oh well, I just plug along doing the best I can while losing a lot of work because others are completely willing to ignore the law. One lady not too long ago notarized docs stating Judy Jones when the id said Judy Smith Miller. I wouldn't notarize the next week and they turned the order back to the original notary. I figure I've been here a long time notarizing and people like this eventually will disappear by playing fast and loose but it is very discouraging. I also know some of the backdaters in my area and patiently wait for them to disappear. By the way, I'm the one always mentioned about the blind lady with the stamp, the guy with no hands, the paralyzed guy, etc. I've seen and had them all !!!
