Placement of seal on docs - a suggestion

When I first got my seal, I was have problems on getting the alignment right on the page without overlapping words, so I found a simple solution.

I use a permanent fine point marker and put a small mark at the beginning and end of the impression on each side of the seal. I line up the seal placement before stamping. Haven't had a bad stamp since.

I do that too JoJo as there is very little room for my seal on a marriage license.

Minnesota right? The max vertical size for a seal is 1/4 inch smaller than my state. Through trial and error, I have found that if you stamp the corner of a somewhat transparent blank sheet of paper. Then align the printed seal in the spot on the document where you want it and place your stamp on the same corner of the paper. Hold the stamp and pull the paper out from under your stamp. You will be able to place your seal on the document exactly where you want it.

This method take practice.

I just sent you a picture showing the example. I was going to insert it here, but don't know how to do it.

Being the crafty/artsy person I am when not working... I use something similar to what JEwing suggested. It is a stamp positioner that I had in my craft supplies. You can find them in scrapbook, stamp stores, craft stores or on the internet. Mine consists of a thin hard acrylic transparent sheet that you stamp your image on first. (and a hard acrylic right angle piece) Next you lay this stamped acrylic sheet over where you want the real stamp to go. Now you line up the right angle (call it a square?) thingy with the edge of the acrylic sheet. Remove the acrylic sheet, and set your stamp down into the corner of the right angle where you just removed the acrylic sheet. Your stamped impression will go exactly where you had lined up the acrylic stamped copy and give you perfect placement every time.
