Pontiac Vibe
Does anyone own a Pontiac Vibe and if so, how is the gas mileage?
I'm looking to trade my Jeep in on something with better gas mileage. I was told the Vibe averages 30-32 miles per gallon. I only get about 15-16 with my Jeep.
Also, how many of you lease instead of purchase?

I don't have a Pontiac Vibe, but I'd be interested to know what kind of Jeep you have to trade.

I went from a Jeep Cherokee to a Pontiac Aztek. Its a little bigger than the Vibe and my three boys fit in it very comfortably. With the fold up seats its also very easy to transport equipment, for both my job and my husband (who's a musician). The only thing I miss is the 4wd, but then around here it only comes in handy 1-2 months a year.
The gas mileage is not a good as the Vibe, but way better than a Jeep. I average about 25 mpg.
Hope this helps you.

I love my Jeep don't get me wrong - but I live in the mountains and it just sucks the gas. A lot of the places I go are back roads, bumpy, etc. and it gets right through it. The Vibe doesn't sit quite as high as my Jeep.

Thats one of the great things about my Aztek. I have the comand view seating. It does sit a lot higher than the Vibe.
Pontiac stopped making the Aztek due to it not being the prettiest vehicle out there. I looked at the Vibe, and it seems like a scaled down version of the Aztek. My Cherokee got about 14mpg.

The Aztek is definitely a different looking vehicle.

Let me know what you find out. My daughter is looking at a Vibe after trying to drive in a snowstorm in her Cougar. She wants something with more clearance and more room to haul her stuff (musical instruments). Also gas mileage is important.

Before I purchased my 2002 Toyota Camry I seriously considered a Toyota Matrix. (FYI) The Vibe is a Pontiac branded Matrix. The high seating in the Matrix is very cool. Other features I liked is a built in 110V outlet and the passenger seat back that folds forward flat for a table just for us road warriors. Almost as if a Mobile Notary had designed this car. Spooky! I came this close to buying one and after test driving every auto on the market between 15 and 25 thousand dollors I settled on the Camry over the Matrix only because the Matrix at 80 mph had a somewhat choppy ride on the freeway.
120 thousand miles later I am happy with my purchase however in hindsight I would have been just as happy with the Matrix too especally now that gas is over $3.

I use a Toyota Matrix. My wife bought it a few years back before we met. I had a VW Jetta before the Toyota, and although the Jetta was much more fun and had the same fuel economy (and was turbo charged with about double the horsepower of the Matrix), the Toyota has been way more dependable with fewer problems. It's a little gutless uphill, but the Phoenix roads are mostly flat in the valley so it doesn't bother me too much. The cabin configuration is very nice and even comfortable for me (6'1", 240 lbs). Not much ground clearance though. It's basically just a Carolla with a hatchback I think.

I LOVE my VIBE!
I bought mine, Oct 1, 2006. It already has 22000 miles on it! I love the car and it gets between 31 and 34 miles per gallon. I do a lot of rural driving mixed with freeway driving.
Again, I have to say that I LOVE my VIBE!!

Try a Toyota Prius
Got a new Prius (hybrid) in Jaunary. Traded in a VW Passat with 99,000 miles on it. (26,000 miles in the past year doing closings.)
Getting 48+ mpg with the Prius, and higher as the weather warms. It also has plenty of room (it's a hatchback) to haul musical and sound equipment. I do closings for fun, but being a weekend jazz musician is where I make my big bucks.
I'm saving $75 monthly since going to the hybrid. It is a new car and my payment is higher, but--it's a new car and not a 4 year old VW with 99,000 miles on it.
(It also has plenty of back seat legroom. I have a 14 year old son who is 5' 11''.)
