Premier Lender Services email fees
I do a lot of work for PLS, and I like them. They called me today with a double email job, which I charge a minimum of $125 for. $50 for trip fee and signing fee. $25 for signing extra docs, $25 for printing first set, $25 for printing second set. They wanted to only pay me $75 total, becuase they say that is their policy, and "all the other notaries do it". I explained to him about paper, ink, time, etc. He said it does not take $25 of matierials and time to print one set of docs. I asked to speak with a supersvisor, but he was the only one there today. We settled on $112.50 for the job.
Are you guys taking less than $125 for double email jobs?
I know sometimes emails don't come in on time, and they make you late for other appointments, sometimes they give you bad passwords, and the people who know the real passwords are gone for the day, sometimes the loans are over 100 pages and you have to print copies. Sometimes they say, "Oh, the docs are wrong, please print up this new stuff, and pull out the old papers". Lots of things can go wrong with email docs.
I would apprecaite your feedback. Thanks.

No, I would never accept less than $125 for a piggyback or a double and I am assuming that is what you mean when you say 2 emails. The fee schedule I use is $75 basic signing (incl trip fee), $25 printing edocs first set, $25 for 2nd set. If the signing is out of my 20 miles range than I add another $25 trip fee.
No, it does not cost $25.00 to print a 1st, refi or HELOC - BUT you have to take into consideration the wear and tear on your printer, time spent plus your other costs.
What makes me laugh is when I say NO, THIS is my price and they come back with "well, can you do it $20 - $10 - $5 - cheaper because we simply cannot pay that price". Why do we have to carry on like we're in a farmer's market emporium haggling over dimes? The T/C's aren't paying THEM less - our operating costs are not going down and the cost to the borrowers are NOT going down!
I'm afraid what is happening is that other SS's have watched companies like LFC who have lowered their prices and firgure if those companies can still get their signings done and get them done cheaper than why not. It is only the integrity of the signing agents who hold firm that can stop it. JMHO

I think right about now it is split on the decision to take less for a job you know is worth more, since business is slow. But personally I don't take less. I've gotten pretty good at what to ask to get my price and if they don't want to pay then politely I say no way. I just did a double and got much more then $125. All the things we have to do are worth something I always say.

The PLS guy I was talking to was laughing the whole time, as if he was nervous and didn't know what to do. I took the job becuase I figured he didn't really know the policy, and when I talk to the supervisor later, I will find out if this is REALLY their policy, or if the guy just didn't know what he was doing. I am printing the docs. They came in 6 attachments, and they are both about 100 pages. So it is taking time, materials, etc.
In general, I also hate it when companies want to pay less becuase it is a "small" loan, but they never offer to pay more when it is a "big" loan.
I like PLS and I want to keep working for them, but if this is their real policy, I will not take any more double email jobs from them. I will stick to my $125 price.
I'm glad that you guys stick to your guns.

That right Stick To Your Guns
Cause if we dont who will? But know matter there policy, you have your own policy and a business to run! $125 is a good deal which he should have took and not laughed. But you are the better man and when your gone from there unfair policy then it will be there loss.

Re: That right Stick To Your Guns
All I know is , when I call a service person to my home, THEY TELL ME what they charge. You can "offer " less and they will won't take the job. Which is EXACTLY what all of us should be doing. I turned down edocs at $90. I charge $ 125.00 minimum. And 2 hours later , I got a call that paid me more.. I don't know of anyone who would tolorate a boss saying " I can only pay you (X) dollars today. No one works for free. If it's good enough for me its good enough for you. Schedulers don't like it when you ask them to work for less or free. They get off the phone really fast. Don't know about anyone else, but it isn't worth my time to even leave my house on a edoc closing for less than 125. Between gas, time ,supplies , babysitting.... . It's nuts but somehow I am getting it done. JMHO

I charge $140 for a first and second. I charge $25 for edocs ( I lose money at $25 on most 100 plus page packages) My fee would be $190. They should kiss you for $125.

No one who treats this as a business is. $112.50 for a double loan is abolutely, positively ridiculous on your part. Sorry to say (well not really) but when people talk about notaries lowering the 'standards', you are one of them. A double should be in the vicinity of $200+.

You asked for feedback:
Don't explain squat. It sounds like whining. Whining means they can get you to go down.
Set a reasonable price, be frank about what it is and don't go below it...otherwise, they've got you pegged for a big weenie and they'll chip away more next time.
When you give away your reasons for resistance you have pretty much given them every tool they need to convince you to take the job for 1/2 of what it is worth. You were sunk before hello.
